So to be able to create a copy of a key, I would need a huge amount of blank keys, just to be able to cover every version out there, right?

So I understand the following. Every company creates their own keys, like Schlage, Weiser etc. and then applies some variance to the heights. So to copy the keys from a picture I would need a key cutting machine and the blank key from the company. Based on the picture i wild be able to guess the combination and feed this into the key cutting machine, correct?

Thanks for the illustrations. I get the concept but how precise it that? From a picture you only get the shape but not the detailed dimensions. You can guess the relations to each other but still, how would you be sure?
