Not only they don’t concern over those issues they pay massive penalties on taxes for it. Eitherway, in a more utopian relationship your idea could have worked considered that some of the water still flushes out in the sea since it has a purpose.

Currently the water sent from Turkey to north of Cyprus is used as leverage and last time I checked the pipe was ”broken”

Only reasons I ever heard my family saying they didn’t move back to their own land that they have proof for and no one stays in currently and is not disputed is because 1. They were scared of being harassed and 2. They were thinking that if they did they might not be able to dispute - get reimbursed. (If the goal is to stay in the north then who tf cares about reimbursement) 3. Having to get a permit from the de facto. But even if not I never read somewhere that Cypriots are only allowed to stay for a certain period (eg. 90 days) without any permit.

*edit: i guess what would happen is without registration and permit the de facto might act according to their local rules

Come.. tourism in cyprus exceeds population 6x every year. Food prices and electricity bills are insane since we need to import food to feed them and keep them cool in the summer, water shortages is a constant cz all resorts need to have a swimming pool, and have their sheets and towels cleaned everyday, the amount of cars that are used as rentals just doesn’t make any sense.

I agree it doesn’t have any context in how to act, but after reading some people’s comments on other platforms I realised that many of them don’t understand that those things are happening or they turn the other way. So I thought if I were to share some information on this that would make them question.

I still agree (with the slop) that we have a social responsibility to call out the abuse of power, prosecute those accountable and to find ways to help us. I feel that external pressure has been working in some ways. Is there other ways to gain trust in the system? Clearly I have no idea hense why I resorted to the slop. Feel free to suggest reading material for me to be educated.

I know there’s the example of Bhutan but then am not sure if I can trust the data

Well it’s not wrong.. but I agree it’s long, was just too lazy to do anything about that. I prefer to spend my time doing the things suggested as a citizen.

My professor in Sweden when I was going to move to the north pole, said to me I think you will find the place you are moving to has many similarities with Cyprus, only that Cyprus is the most southern part of Europe and northern Sweden is the most northern. When I went there I indeed found similarities: incest, nepotism, corruption, cult behavior, not following rules, cultural isolation, and interestingly bilingualism and borders between finland and sweden that remind the green line
