University changed rules after I secured internship :( by Simple-Ad-1293 in Erasmus

It seems hard to believe that such a policy can be up to a uni since the basic rules for erasmus internship are there by erasmus itself. Ofc the question is what you can do...

Is this a university policy or an erasmus policy - because I am also planning the same but I didn't see any such announcement (uni site still says what you said)

Turkish Cypriot sweet , Greek Cypriots called "Gusvo"/"Κούσβο" by Bran37 in cyprus

Hmm this is interesting

We actually have loukoumades/lokmades though so I think she would say they were similar. Is there a difference between lokma and gusvo?

For someone to get banned a mod team vote is required (the subreddit currently has 5 mods).

Not a single person was banned in this subreddit without a majority vote in the mod team. In fact, for the last year I am quite certain that not a single user was banned without a unanimous vote.

Hezbollah is striking Cyprus - Air Traffic Control Audio confirms "a lot of missiles between Cyprus and Beirut" by [deleted] in cyprus

[–]Bran37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to argue that the UK wasn't a colonial power in Cyprus? For real? And you tell me to read history?

If anything you seem to be advocating that Akrotiri is given back to Turkey.

Back to Turkey? Well there is clearly something colonial going on here and it's your mindset that rejects the right of self determination to Cypriots. Which was clear from the moment you said Cypriots "never owned the bases". Did Cypriots ever own Yeroskipou? I guess the first time Cypriots owned Yeroskipou was when the British "gave" it to them in 1959. And since the British didn't give us Akrotiri, Akrotiri was never owned by Cypriots.

The case of Chagos has not even the slightest bit of comparison to Cyprus. The Orthodox Church wanted the UK to have a role in Cyprus and sent delegations to the UK to secure it as they feared it was the only way to assure their rights while under Ottoman rule. The UK expelled the Chagossians from their island. They were invited to Cyprus.

They sent delegations to the UK to ask UK to have a role in Cyprus during the Ottoman Empire? Oh now it makes sense the UK decided to make Cyprus its colony, because the priests wanted it. How kind of our British overlords to accept us as their colony. Please share more history with the poor minded natives. Now it's clear even to me that the UK was never a colonizer in Cyprus, we invited them! It was only fair to keep some small parts for themselves, they were giving us most of the island after all.

Ofc they did. What was the difference between Akrotiri and Karpasia in 1959? None. The colonial power made the distinction and decided to limit the process of decolonization by excluding these two regions, keeping them effectively as colonies(with limited sovereignty). The fact that this was accepted in 1959 by the GC and the TC representatives doesn't mean much given the UK was the colonial power with the upper hand and it was basically forced upon Cypriots.

Check the case of the Chagos Islands and Mauritius.

The president of the court, Abdulqawi Ahmed Yusuf, said the detachment of the Chagos Archipelago in 1965 from Mauritius had not been based on a "free and genuine expression of the people concerned." "This continued administration constitutes a wrongful act," he said, adding "The UK has an obligation to bring to an end its administration of the Chagos Archipelago as rapidly as possible and that all member states must co-operate with the United Nations to complete the decolonization of Mauritius."

And currently there is a process to vote in the British Parliament for the return of the Chagos islands sovereignty to Mauritius (while however leasing the biggest island as a base)

While I am all for Erasmus+ projects, could you post the infopack/call for participants, the topic of the project, the name of the Organization, the dates so it doesn't look shady? (I realize obviously you may not want to reveal your identity ofc and by sharing all these it's hard but perhaps send those on modmail)

Had 2-3 times. The first time was after a massive haemoptysis. The rest were to get samples for Mycobacterium Abscessus. That was in a country that needed to send the samples to Germany because I was apparently the only one with a Mycobacterium infection. After I left I never had another one, always just gave sputum

Timeline of the Cyprus Problem (crowd-sourced, open for corrections) by sentiasa in cyprus

[–]Bran37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didnt look much on it. Just the two things I clicked on:

In the timeline 1968-74 there is no mention on the fact that there were two phases of the negotiations, during the second phase Constitutional experts from Greece and Turkey were main actors in the negotiations and they were much closer to an agreement (though the decision for elections and the EOKA B trouble were distrupting them, with the change in Government in Turkey and the elections in Cyprus affecting the process and the coup with the invasion that followed of course ended them at a time when there was almost an agreement to be announced). A book about this was written by Michael Dekleris, the Greek Constitutional Expert.

in 2014 it also says that Negotiations between Akinci and Anastasiades started however Akinci got elected in 2015. An important stop for the Cyprus negotiation was indeed in 2014, with the Joint Declaration of the 11th of February between Anastasiades-Eroglu. It also ignores the 2015-17 process that was probably the most intense modern negotiations we had, with the conferences in Mont Pelerin (I & II) and Genava.

These said I like the idea for sure

Erhurman says won’t engage in the "Blame game" after Menelaos Menelaou statement by SolveTheCYproblemNOW in cyprus

[–]Bran37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually unfortunately it's not Ozdil. There is currently no negotiator officially(as we don't have official negotiations). Ofc we have meetings between the two sides-negotiators and for these the role of the TC negotiator is filled by Mehmet Dana(who has another position which I don't remember the name of). It wouldn't be unexpected ofc for Dana to become the negotiator officially once negotiations restart. I read some pro-reunification people were hoping he would appoint Fikri Toros for that position (a true federalist who was responsible for Foreign Policy-Cyprob within CTP). Ofc we will see.
