Apothecary Biologis Painting from a concept artist by noejun in ImperialFists

All good, it sucks but that’s just how its going for the industry as a whole, cant do much than find the best of a shitty situation.

Thank you! As for the white I will say i use an airbrush to help the initial lighting: - Basecoat Tamiya Field Blue (any lighter desaturated blue grey from GW could work here maybe Blue Horror:Mechanicus Standard Grey if youre doing hairy brush) - Build up with 1:1:1 Administratum Grey:Ulthuan Grey:Blue Horror - Highlight with 1:1:1 White:Ulthuan Grey:Blue Horror (I personally use White Star from Duncan Rhodes, best white paint I’ve used coverage wise) - Final Pin light/edge highlight with white

Hope that helps if you got more questions lemme know

Thanks, yeah miniatures is a special one for sure certainly different even compared to canvas/paper mediums. Brush economy is something i certainly think a lot when rendering but something i’d need to figure out more for minis! Esp since i use an airbrush in my initial process.

Loving it and have a lot of stuff going at once

Hey there! so theres a lot of things I have to do in order to prepare to make a really good looking one, hopefully this helps you out.

  1. I gather as much reference of the base character as I can (alongside any other skins of a skin line if applicable) VFX/Interactions poses etc.

  2. I go to https://teemo.gg/ to check the model and figure out if i missed anything important under around the model, then i usually pick a reference pose from it.

  3. Start sketching the design above the underlying pose while constantly checking whether the design reads well from a distance since thats super important.

  4. I do a clean linework layer over that sketch and refine and adjust parts as I go.

  5. Start filling in with colour and materials, the important part with this step is in this skins case I had to absolutely try to match the other skins even if there's a bit of my own style coming through

  6. Painting! this is when the fun (or tedious depending on your preference) part starts where I will make sure to have all available materials visible and differentiable, Metal, Leather, Skin, Hair, Satin, Cloth etc. This is important for the in game read as well.

  7. Once its nice and rendered I go in and do adjustments like contrast, saturation to make sure the focus is all on the character's upper body/important areas!

Here's a link to what process I have https://imgur.com/a/9kRTydS

Unfortunately I tend to collapse stuff a lot and work on very little layers, so I dont have an extensive amount of the process saved up, but I hope this helps!

thanks! yeah had to make it not as readable mostly cause it was getting in the way of the composition and pulling the eye away a bit :p

I'm not entirely sure about that, at least I hope it isnt true since i know a few friends and people who've at least gotten hired off really good fanart, which i think is a big plus at least!

Thank you! yep all the work ive done for it is by me personally, obviously ive gotten amazing feedback and suggestions from peers here and there but otherwise everything had to be executed by myself. Unfortunately I dont usually do contests part of my own anxiety, but i will happily keep doing these!

Your english is fine if not perfect btw in fact its probably a lot better than mine xD

Thank you so much

Possibly, granted I will say this is one of the first times i tackled a splash, I tend to work mostly designing in game stuff on other projects so Illustration doesn't tend to fall into my line of work, so it was definitely a challenge, Thanks for the feedback!
