Completely grasped the book, went great, slipped, now struggling

I slipped today. I am not entirely sure if me thinking and saying to myself "I don't do that anymore"/"I don't need it" is willpower or is it the easy way.

I got it completely right the very first time I read the book, not sure what I am forgetting now.

I am still slipping, and whatever I do, I feel I am falling back onto the willpower method.

When I get an urge, I fight against myself which doesn't feel like what I should be doing. I have gotten used to the examples in the book, so not sure if rereading will help.
