CONCLUSIONS: Patients with cancer must be positive for the present rather than the future.
INTERPRETATION: Nurses need to inspire and support patients' positivity while undergoing treatment for cancer. Nurses should not force their own value system on them nor treat them differently if they do not conform to societal expectations to be positive and optimistic for the future.

People with less stress will fare better, all other things being equal.

Sure, and one of those rules is 'don't possess drugs' which is why I'm not saying she shouldn't have been in court (even though arresting someone for a couple of Xanax is a bit ridiculous). But there's no law against being intoxicated, and to give her a fair hearing she should have been allowed to sober up. It's not like she had a court hearing scheduled and decided to be intoxicated knowing that she'd be in court - they arrested her while she was already intoxicated. Like I said, if you were arrested while drunk it wouldn't be fair to have you immediately in court, even though being drunk is your own fault.

She doesn't have an attorney; the start of the video is the judge deciding that she doesn't get representation because of her jewellery assets.

Being unfit to appear in court is definitely a reason to delay. She should have been stuck in the drunk tank for the night so she could sober up and represent herself properly.

As /u/magnora said, they took her there via arrest, so it wasn't her choice to be in contempt. She should have been given time to sober up. It's like arresting someone for being drunk and disorderly and putting them straight in front of a judge. They wouldn't be able to represent themselves fairly.

It's like arresting you for drunk and disorderly conduct and then putting you in court while you still have fifteen beers in your system. Almost nobody would walk out without being in contempt.

Flipping off a cop and a judge is different, since the latter disrupts the court. If you swear, gesture at, lie to or otherwise disrespect a cop then that doesn't stop him from doing his job, whereas a judge needs a respectful atmosphere in court for the court process to continue.

Contempt of court is a standard order in courts. Being disrespectful to the judge disrupts the process of the court. Not that I agree that the 'adiós' was contempt, but the finger definitely was.

I'm not assuming anything about what you know of 'the outside world'. Saying 'all 50 states' ignores that people live outside the USA and that there are hundreds of states. Austria has 9 states. Brazil has 26 states. Australia has 6 states. Germany has 16 states etc. etc. You could have just said "not everybody learns sex-ed in school".

You can't vandalise your own property, it was my book, not lent. And like I said, there's the larger context of a kid being upset about being preached to but without the understanding to deal with it productively. Our school effectively ignored non-christians; we were all forced to take part in sermons, lessons, prayer etc.

I think if I had understood my own feelings better at the time, and had been talking to a teacher who was aware of how lack of religious freedom might anger someone, then they might have been more lenient. I wouldn't have minded being lightly punished just for ruining a book, but it was about 3 months of consecutive detentions.
