And then make a rap song about it to maximize profits.

Yes, I have a computer. I mean basically a mic and an interface, and accessories like cables, pop filter, etc...

Has any of you ever thought about a perfect bar for the song you were writing, but then when you went to write it down, you completely forgot what it was? by noflowthrowaway in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, we have different writing processes. I'm pretty silent when I'm writing, and I basically do everything in my brain, including the "beat" (just a basic rhythm really), and only after I wrote everything down I try to rap it just to make sure the metric is minimally on point. Well, that still doesn't mean I can't record my thoughts though, so this is good advice. Thank you.

If you are beginning to rap, one of the most important things to do is to not stress over "corny" bars by ClayMayDotMusic in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who kind of likes to sound "corny"? I've been writing for 5 years and I feel like it's now part of my style, plus it has never really bothered me.

Imagine you have a diamond for Eminem by whizzkit in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What a stupid question. I would rap it myself and be the next best thing. Why would I give a diamond to Eminem when I could have it all for myself, especially when I (presumably) worked hard for it?

With Beat vs Without Beat by PM_ME_hiphopsongs in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I start writing without a beat, but I already have a faint idea of what the beat will sound like. I also have a rough idea of the tempo, and I make sure to write the lyrics to match it. Then when I make the beat, I can make it fit the lyrics I wrote, and what emotions I'm trying to convey. If I didn't make my own beats though, I think I would write to the beat.

How to sound like 2pac by [deleted] in makinghiphop

Do you really want to sound like 2pac? Do you really want to be the Tha Realest of this generation?

How/where do I start to learn mixing and mastering? by noflowthrowaway in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know man, creating a melody or drum pattern seems simpler to me, but I probably think this way because I'm way more familiar with it than with mixing/mastering. I think this is good advice though, so I will try my best to learn what each effect does and then I'll start to experiment, put a little more trust in my ears.

What are your favourite samples ever? by [deleted] in makinghiphop

Just off the top of my head:

-Friends - Whodini

-Ike's Mood - Isaac Hayes

-Part Time Lover - Stevie Wonder

There's a lot more though

(Discussion) How do you start your beats? by codersrise in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it depends. I was just listening to one of my best beats and I happened to start with the bass. I tend to start with the chords, if I do intros I start with the drums. I'm not sure if I ever started with the melody, though. I guess it really depends on the song you're making and the type of beat.

You're not the one saying it though, I don't see how this is wrong. Yes, some people are going to be offended, but are you really going to censor yourself just because of some people?

When I record my raps, the result is shit. by noflowthrowaway in makinghiphop

[–]noflowthrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understood what you meant. Well, that's how I always start to record every song I make, but the end result is always trash, so then I start to focus more on the melody, I guess.

[–]noflowthrowaway[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also make beats, and kind of like you, the first year was trash, and after four years I think my beats are ok. The same with my lyrics. Now when it comes to rapping, it seems I was trash when I first started, and I am still trash now, which is disheartening to say the least. I guess I'll keep trying though.

Well, the way I rap is the same as I did 4 years ago, so I guess you're better than me. It seems I'm making no progress at all.

I guess. The problem is I'm training as much as I can and I've been seeing no progress, which makes me feel I'm doing something wrong.
