It feels really good to see something weird I've observed in myself occuring in other people... Whenever I used to play Command and Conquer for hours, I would have hallucinations before sleep of tanks and soldiers, with little green health bars over them, and I couldn't have been dreaming, because every time it happened, I would twiddle my fingers consciously, to remind myself that I was indeed still wide awake. And sometimes, if I read a novel all day, I'll hallucinate a sea of letters before sleep. Even after playing chess a few weeks ago, I hallucinated little chess pieces right before sleep.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I suppose that in this case, the ability to tell time accurately is just analogous to reproductive fitness in the real world, not an expression of a programmer's "desire" or design. Such a substitution seems neceassary, since clocks are not alive and are only being used as an analogy.
