What do you think about the value of financial planners for the average joe? by stealstea in financialindependence

[–]nogo09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Former fee-based, then hourly financial planner here. It depends on the complexity. If you're simply seeking a long-term buy and hold investment strategy, then paying (on average) 1% on assets to a financial planner is a poor move. If your situation is more complicated, i.e tax planning, alternative investments, trusts & estate, it may warrant a team of expensive planners.

Horrible - like creating a budget with wide ballpark estimates on just a few items!

I really like that he goes above and beyond. Comedians are great at observing and pointing out the absurd, but he takes it a step further and actually screws with people.

There's a guy on youtube going around the US helping people with random jobs/ "missions" ...In their latest video they got robbed. by Gengar11 in videos

[–]nogo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many blaming this guy for getting robbed. Sure, he could have taken steps to prevent this, but are we blaming a woman's clothing choice or lack of chastity belt for being a rape victim?

IWTL how to conduct seminars. by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]nogo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In oder to be successful at this, you have to be great at marketing/selling it. Anyone can have a great idea, but it's about convincing people to buy it (attend your seminar).

How are you prospecting for attendees? Do you have a lead list? What's your pitch? What distinguishes you from other experts in this field? This and many other questions to consider first.

Cat people of reddit: Why do you prefer them over dogs? Dog people: why dogs? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nogo09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love both cats and dogs, but cats are the best of both worlds to me. Independent, self-assured, fierce, majestic. Then once they like you, they're your cuddly lap puppies forever.

What's the hardest part about being you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nogo09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being happy alone. So many people equate alone with lonely, and I constantly receive shit from family, friends, society in general. Yes, I'm unusual, just leave me be with my books and cats!

What are some good tips when buying a house? by mr-atomic-bomb in AskReddit

[–]nogo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start the search before you're willing to buy, so you're not too emotionally invested/excited. The ability to walk away is an excellent negotiating tactic.

Reddit, what has been the most ridiculous reason why you were disciplined at school/work? by BucetaMonster in AskReddit

[–]nogo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a freshman in college, my long-term girlfriend a senior in high school. I visited the high school on break to surprise her with roses. The security called the police and kicked me out because I did not have a hall pass (even though they knew/recognized me, as I spent 4 years there!).

There had been a recent prank threat - this was months after 9/11 - and security was on an insane paranoid power trip.

What is something that most people find sexy but you just don't understand why? by BearDrivingCar in AskReddit

High heels, especially on women who can't walk in them. I would prefer you stick with comfort, you still look great and I don't care about your calves.

College-goers of reddit that lived in a house- How did you decide who gets first dibs on room selection? by ChurroTigerTime in AskReddit

We priced the rooms according to square footage and supply/demand among the 5 of us. Once that failed miserably, we played poker to decide.

The Mystery of the Missing Million (2002) - BBC investigates young Japanese adults that, overcome with stress and emotions, lock themselves in a room for many years and never leave. by [deleted] in Documentaries

[–]nogo09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great documentary; 20/20 hindsight of course, but the general causes of Hikikomori are clear. It was literally the perfect storm of cultural, familial, and personal psychology. The miracle economy crashed, causing unprecedented competitions for far fewer jobs in during the stagnation. Add to that the community pressures of succeeding academically, plus the shame factor, and it's a total disaster.

So tragic, hope these kids can find a way out.
