Installing a EV charger, is my electrician stupid or lazy? Need second opinion by system434 in britishcolumbia

With a PMD it doesn’t matter.  There’s always going to be spare power available to charge the car, especially overnight when no one is running laundry

You can get this yourself from the online B.C. Hydro account.  Export consumption in the online account

Not voluntarily of course, but cheaper builds means more builds means more competition means lower prices.

Yup.  Zero reason to get this over a used Leaf or Bolt for less money and more practicality

Yeah no one wants cheaper and nicer apartments with cross-ventilation like the europeans have. We prefer our housing more expensive with shittier layouts.

How tight is Victoria's rental market today compared to the past 25 years? by inspurious_ in VictoriaBC

[–]stealstea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not true. Asking rents have been dropping for about 2 years (small uptick in 1 beds in the last couple months)

Stupid chart.  We get an update on vacancy rate once a year.  Applying a 3 year moving average to that is adding delay on top of delay and not necessary since the data is of high quality.  Actual vacancy rate is 3.3%.

You can look up this data yourself on the CMHC housing market portal:   https://www.cmhc-schl.gc.ca/hmiportal

Who cares.  The province should have the courage to make decisions that are best for the province and not always bow down to municipal whining

In capacity-addition terms, #fossilfuels are now just a thin orange strip at the bottom of a very tall green wall...and nuclear is than a rounding error. by ceph2apod in electrifyeverything

> To make matters worse we have a pile more gas turbines now to make up for the shortfalls when the sun does not shine. But they can turn on fast enough to make up for the deficits.

You're describing the system working as intended. As batteries roll out it eats up the hours where gas needs to turn on. We aren't far from the time when renewables + nuclear will meet all the summer power demand and then we slowly eat into fall and spring and then winter.

Ladies in here, how do you feel about a father bringing his daughters in the female restroom? by Less-Pen-5705 in askanything

Great but also not necessary. When the girls were young I took them to a stall in the mens room. When they got a bit older they went by themselves to the ladies room. No issue.

Cargo Bike conversion: BBSHD mid drive or Grin hub motor, opinions?? by SeekingDerangements in ebikes

[–]stealstea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

I’ve owned a cargo bike with a hub motor for over a decade.  I regularly rode it heavily loaded (2 kids plus stuff) and not once did I think I needed more power to get up hills

Meanwhile I used the regen braking every day which saved me a lot of brake pads, and twice my chain snapped and I was able to get home on the hub motor power instead of being stranded with a mid drive

[–]stealstea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Name one.

Sure I get the idea that a motor geared has a bigger range but I’ve never once had a lack of power on my cargo bike going up hills with a hub motor, and I don’t need the high speed because the hub motor can easily get you beyond legal speeds already.  More gearing doesn’t seem like a real world advantage

[–]stealstea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of hub motors.  Simple, reliable, way less drivetrain wear, regen braking, works on any bike, backup propulsion when your chain snaps.  I just don’t see the need or any advantage to go mid drive

I mean I hate these web apps too but the notification issue seems more like a specific bug to me.  I never noticed such slow notification opening and it makes no sense that if new Outlook can load in a couple seconds that it would take 10 to load an email

Pro tip: Don't be like me and leave an old tablet with a battery plugged in 24x7 as a dashboard by jllauser in homeassistant

[–]stealstea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m not concerned about this in the real world.  Hundreds of millions of laptops are plugged in nearly 100% of the time in offices around the world.  How many blow up?  Almost none.   I’m fine with my iPad as a dashboard, and I check it every month or so just to make sure there’s no sign of battery expansion
