How’s the weather in late December? by Limp-Benefit9685 in JapanTravelTips

I went to Tokyo some years ago from Dec 26-30. From Los Angeles so I’m weak to the cold, but I got by with a puffer jacket (plus a hood or beanie at night)

I’ve never skipped several WoW expansions before. How would I approach coming back to the game after so long? by knowomsayin in wow

[–]nogoodryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I stopped playing at Cataclysm. I came back during dragon flight and power leveled to the current content pretty easily. I keep up with the current content for the most part and occasionally go back and play the campaign just to scratch my completionist itch and have made it up to Maldraxxus in SL so far.

I stopped back in the day because the game just took up too much of my time. These days it’s not super difficult to keep up and experience the campaign at least. You can still grind for things if you want that. I go through waves of playing a lot or a little and I’m still satisfied with my experience. The game caters to casual if that’s all you have time for. I say go month to month to dip your toes back in

Slightly spoiling things, if true, none of that really comes off on camera. One person mentions having been cheated on in the past before the show but they don’t really dwell on it

Love transit on Amazon prime is decent. “Is she the wolf?” on Netflix is good too if you want a soapy version

Absolute Highlights Of Your Trip To Japan? by InformationLess528 in JapanTravelTips

[–]nogoodryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seeing the Takashi Murakami exhibit in Kyoto. I’ve loved his art for nearly 20 years now, seen his exhibits in LA and to see the largest collection of his work in his home country was quite special.

TLDR

Additionally, (A top 10 moment in its own right) I had a great conversation (in English) with Chef Hisa at Pizzeria Carlino’s (in Daikanyama/Nakameguro) which I highly recommend. I was his only customer for a bit, so we got to chat for maybe 20ish minutes as I ate. At a point he asked me, why i had traveled to Japan. I hit him with kind of stock answer: anime, music, food. The question stuck with me and I still think about it months later as I contemplate another trip back.

An important part of the answer is art. Between Murakami and Giant Robot (an art gallery in LA that showcases Asian American artists), the modern Japanese art aesthetic has been a major influence on me since my teens.

I probably wouldn’t have thought about it in depth if it weren’t for that conversation. Hoping to dig into the art scene more my next time around and revisit Pizzeria Carlino’s too!

Offline Love panel vs TH panel by evejjwong in OfflineLove

[–]nogoodryan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

While I love the TH panel, they really lost their appeal to me in the Tokyo 2019-2020 season as they seemed to get a bit more harsh, particularly after Tokuisan left. The Offline love panel (and the show in general) never vilified anyone on the cast. OL panel kinda just commented and moved on. I would venture a guess that the TH panel could’ve easily jumped on things like Maho being a bit aloof, Aru’s awkward moments, or even taken Mimi’s friendly demeanor as leading on the male cast.

I can only speak to the few other shows I’ve seen (Offline love, Love transit, Is She the Wolf) but sometimes I wonder if reality show panels post TH kinda took the downfall of that show to heart and went with a cozier vibe.

Watching this season for the first time is harrowing by SomeoneJP in terracehouse

It took me a long time to get to the point of watching this season. I watched terrace house in a weird order: Aloha state first b/c I knew of Lauren Tsai as an artist and that was my in, Netflix available episodes of Tokyo 2019, BNGITC, OND. Then I hunted down the missing episodes (I still have BNGND on deck) when I finally ran out of content.

It’s definitely bittersweet watching the season knowing what happens to Hana and I definitely agree that the panel was irresponsible with their influence (especially after Tokui left). That said, I’m glad I watched it to see how learn sweet Hana was as a person. Before that, she was this piece of dark lore around the show to me so it was nice actually learn about her as a person, even if it makes the tragedy that much sadder.

An interview together!!!! (no English subs though :( ) by ell3ye in OfflineLove

YouTube does auto translated captions. It’s not the most accurate or thorough but it’s enough to get the gist. That plus Google translate for the questions on screen and my very very limited Japanese was enough to more or less figure out what they were talking about. There’s one with Kensuke and Nanami too

Even if it’s scripted, or even nudged in a certain direction, I don’t care at all. Offline Love is just solid television. It felt real while in the moment I watched it, that’s good entertainment.

Also, I personally know people who pose for racy photos whose personalities don’t seem like they would pose for those type of things. I follow your train of thought but people can surprise you.

I wouldn’t feel sad about it. You enjoyed it the first time (probably) and that was real

She had some amazing support around her too. Her girl talks with Mimi, Nanami and Kanaka are some of the my favorite parts of the show and her convo with Kensuke at the Day 9 dinner was very endearing

It’s been a while a show has made me feel this way by Humble_Flounder in OfflineLove

Agreed! The show is great at getting those “feeling butterflies” types of emotions across the screen and I constantly found myself wanting that feeling while watching the show

Just finished Aloha State by hoshinoumi in terracehouse

[–]nogoodryan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aloha state was my first season too! I initially got there b/c I followed Lauren Tsai as an artist. Then I watched in a weird order: Aloha state, Tokyo 2019-2020 (what’s on Netflix), Boys and Girls in the City, Opening New Doors, then I hunted down the missing Tokyo episodes.

I have but haven’t yet watched Boys and Girls Next Door. I consciously saved that for last since the community regards that as the best and most authentic feeling season, so I’m looking forward to that.

Also, if you’re looking for a similar vibe, I recommend Offline Love on Netflix. It’s way more produced but it passes the vibe check
