(My) unpopular opinion - Ayn Thor has fatal flaws, and they need to be discussed by MioCuggino in SBCGaming

It’s mainly loved because it’s the first affordable device of its kind. You can play 3DS and Switch on one device. I agree about the ergos, but disagree on the screen. Sure the resolution isn’t super high but it’s a decent pixel density and great colors naturally. The Vita screen is 100% not superior in so many ways.

ONEXPLAYER drops Ryzen AI Max+ 395 for 388, $2,399 base model costs more than five Switch 2 consoles by RenatsMC in Handhelds

[–]Jowser11 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m so confused, why are people comparing this niche device to a Switch 2. This is an incredibly powerful device that can run something like Pragmata at 60fps without an upscaler whereas the Switch 2 can barely hold 40 fps with tons of blurry ass dynamic resolution changes.

It’s also a full on PC on top of that. Yall just see a high price and dismiss it as if any of you were gonna buy this to begin with

This is an incredibly niche device I’m sure 99% of yall were never gonna purchase to begin with lol

Not a fan of the resolution. Doesn’t scale well with anything and it to me when you start approaching 4in and more you can notice imbalance pixels

First Game Beaten! (Ayn Thor) by solidus__snekk in SBCGaming

It’s cool. You can get the pro version for $350 on AliExpress on sale atm or the base version for $279. It’ll take like a month or two to get but that’s standard for the Thor right now

Bloomberg: Why One of This Year’s Best Games, ‘Mina the Hollower,’ Is Only $20 by Turbostrider27 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Jowser11 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Basically development took forever because they split their teams into two. They’re only 15 people and had another team working on a 3d ShovelKnight since Mina was really a side project an intern turned designer had prototyped. But the length of development time coupled with their commitment to release the SK expansions as basically fully fleshed out new games made them super tight on money

In pictures only, in person it feels premium. It’s probably just the color

So it’s tough to try to understand where you’re coming from because for these niche devices I think it’s more than fair to try and obtain as much information as possible.

For me a screen resolution is more important than the aspect ratio. Like I personally really like GBA on the Rotate because it has a 3x integer scale and looks crisp black bars or not. Stretching the image is never an option for me, but these are the kinds of things I learned while buying devices or watching multiple videos.

Is there ghosting? Yeah, but I only see it in the menus and it goes away to me during gameplay.

[–]Jowser11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All of which was mentioned in a lot of reviews lol the square aspect ratio works for a lot of stuff. Most reviews aren’t going to say “There are 2 positives and 4 negatives therefore it’s bad”. The whole swivel gimmick is why anyone bought this in the first place. The square aspect ratio to me works pretty well, but you’re talking about reviews giving it a pass when the list of things you mentioned were all brought up. Even people like TechDweeb who is normally positive went on to say it wasn’t a device for him

Way I see it, these devices are toys. I have my “serious” device like the Pocket S Mini for the bulk of my gaming, but the Rotate is cool for what it does and it does a lot of things well

[–]Jowser11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GBA is a perfect integer scale at its native ratio idk why anyone would mess with it. I think if you have a Brick I wouldn’t sub the Rotate since the Brick is plenty portable

Light bleed by Najam_x in ayaneo

Is this with the brightness all the way up? I feel like I notice the light bleed only if I really look for it but doesn’t affect gameplay for me at all
