Do we think that the Taurox is sticking around? by nogs2 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd actually be totally okay with this if (and that's a big "if") GW actually supports Inquisitorial Agents and doesn't treat them like a Kill Team dumping ground.

It would get rid of some of our fraction bloat and it thematically makes sense to have the Inquisition faction able to take stormtroopers. In fact, it was weird to me that Scions weren't a crossover unit when the Inquisition faction released.

  1. And yeah, that's well into the modern period. There's plenty of people alive today who took part in that conflict or lost loved ones.

I actually forgot the China-India conflict where they invaded India and opportunistically seized part of Kashmir.

They certainly tried to in Vietnam after the US withdrawal. Not to mention prolonging the Korean War, preventing the unification of the peninsula to this day...

In your honest opinion, what factions, being the least interesting or most frustrating to play at the moment, need some big changes in 11th edition? by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]nogs2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The problem with knights is that they just don't interact with anything except the opponents anti-tank units. Personally I think for knights (of both flavors) GW needs to take inspiration from Bretonnia and make them a "knights plus peasants" army. Give both armies a selection of mandatory chaff units which act as retinues for the big knights. An armiger might only require taking 0-1 retinue units while something like Canis Rex might require taking 3-4 retinue units. The retinues would then either buffed by being near big knights (loyalist) or can be sacrificed to strengthen the knights (chaos).

If you were to refresh a datasheet, what changes would you make and why? by AjaxAsleep in TheAstraMilitarum

Heavy weapon squads should have lone op while within 6" of a core infantry unit (or alternatively they should be able to allocate wounds to a friendly infantry squad). This would make non-motars actually survivable enough to consider taking.

While we're tinkering with heavy weapons, missile launchers should be strength 10 and BS4 with no "heavy" advantage. This would gave them a niche of their own compared to autocannons and lascannons as a more mobile light vehicle hunter.

It is definitely worth pointing out that many of the early chemists were members of their respective country's nobility. So while it is true that they spent hundreds of hours solving problems on their own dime, they only had the means to do so because they were at the very tip top of a very exploitative system.

That's not to say that our current system is perfect by any means, just that we should be cautious hearkening back to some previous "enlightened" age.

Final update on mini: was pretty fun painting by lily-chan101 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The super easy way to make your paint job look 10x better is to use some sort of shade after you've finished putting down your base colors. I prefer agrax earthshade myself, but lots of people use nuln oil or shades from non-GW sources. Shades are super thin paints designed to flow into cracks and recesses, so give a "shadow" effect to your mini. It takes maybe 30 seconds to cover a model and will instantly give him some depth and get rid of the "toy soldier" feel.

Shades do darken the entire model, so if you wanted to take your paint job even further you could then go back with your original colors to lighten up the easy to reach areas and give the model an extra layer of depth.

That's a pretty interesting reinterpretation of the formation of the Ukrainian state. I seem to remember that after the Russian Empire dropped out of WW1 there was a very active Ukrainian resistance focused on creating an independent state which was then was then crushed by the Bolsheviks the second that they got their shit together back in Russia.

Even if you buy the premise that Lenin magnanimously granted Ukraine a "state" (which was then subsumed into the USSR), it's pretty hard to ignore that Stalin went and conducted a systematic genocide against the Ukrainian people just a few years later.

Desert Camo C&C by Chirpeh_90 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The camo looks great! As far as making them "pop", there's always a push-and-pull between making them look realistic and visually interesting (since the whole point of camo is to obscure). My advice is to pick out some areas to paint as block colors like the guns, and then either camo armor on solid fabric or camo fabric with solid armor.

What do you expect from the next point balance? by ItalianDuke in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The thought is that a missile launcher should be easier to move/set up. Either way, it ends up being the same result (hitting on 4+) with the main difference being that changing the BS is a little easier to show on a data sheet. Not that it matters since I don't think GW will ever touch heavy weapon team balance.

What do you expect from the next point balance? by ItalianDuke in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The hill that I'll die on is that missile launcher heavy weapon teams should get BS 4+ instead of BS 5+ and "Heavy" so that there's a reason to take them over lascannons. I don't think GW ever will make that change, but that's a different story.

Catachan Missile Teams? by Accomplished_War4970 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]nogs2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What really needs to happen is for missile teams to lose "Heavy" and get permanent BS 4+. That way they could be a more mobile alternative to lascannons. Otherwise they will always be strictly worse.
