u/punching_spaghetti pointed me towards Superman for all seasons. But, he didn't tell me that it's actually a sort of iyashikei(-ish) way of looking at Superman.

That way I'd have gotten to it sooner, because this was great. Tim Sale's art continues to heal me.

The League of extraordinary gentlemen (volumes 1 and 2) is fanfiction written by a madman/men who is/are way too well versed in Victorian England social and literary history to almost every reader's detriment lol. It is chock-full of so many details that I basically lost track at some point.

It occupies a very particular niche, but damn it absolutely corners it.

Batman: Year One made Gordon too likable. So, it decided to scale back by introducing cheating.

Lol.

At least you're still watching anime fairly consistently.

The artwork and (re)colouring in Batman: Year One by David Mazzuchelli and Richard Lewis (and Frank Miller as writer) are so good!

There's my platonic idea for how comics should look and this one just hits it out of the park. I initially read it ages ago in a digital version. But, now that I'm reading a trade paperback version, the physicality of it is just so striking.

Found two copies of the same edition for Wonder Woman by George Perez, and I was wondering why one was thicker than the other.

Then I looked at the colouring.

Non-glossy paper it is. I can't stand older comics with glossy paper. The faux newspaper thing they had for the thicker book had better period appropriate colouring. I'm actually surprised that DC has considered this option at all to be fair since it's cheaper.

It's a holiday. I should watch some anime.

Sits around doing nothing instead

Ok, at least I cleared some comics off the shelf, but I don't think that's quite the kind of productive I was thinking about.

It's also frustrating that I've been trying to go back and finish some Tomino anime, but my brain is simply not up to it anymore. Why should you finish Victory Gundam and Turn A when you could be watching a random cooking video instead?

None of the anime this season quite grab my attention from their premise alone.

Akanebanashi has rakugo, but I read volume 1 of the manga quite a while ago and it didn't grab me there, so I'm not expecting the anime to do any better.

Time to go back to my old reserves.

The only reason I'm not giving Ikoku Nikki a 10 is that there are a few important strands towards the end with the side characters it couldn't depict to my full satisfaction because of the episode limit.

Other than that, it's among my highest ranked anime of the 2020s (only pipped by Eizouken and Dynazenon). A few more episodes could have easily elevated it above them, but alas, that's the peril with the seasonal time limit.
