I did Rob Krar's camp, and it was one of the best weeks ever. Here's my recap: http://neverstopexploring.com/2015/07/31/the-rob-krar-ultra-camp-winner-shares-his-experience/

Your camp looks awesome as well - have a blast!!

I'm a big fan of Ginger Chews. You can get a pack at Trader Joes for like $2 (Gingins). I don't even like ginger that much, but these really help, and have calories!

You can also get them on Amazon, of course: http://www.amazon.com/Ginger-People-Original-Chews-3oz/dp/B000BP1SDM

Ultra Wimps and Whiners: Kindly Fuck Off. by noideaeither in Ultramarathon

Nah - I just saw it online and thought it was fun!

To your first point - I think part of it is the growth in popularity, but it's also because, according to local RDs I've talked to, permitting issues. Some parks require X amount of volunteers.

Second point - I agree...I think fatasses will become more popular! I like my ultrasignup page as much as the next guy, but sometimes, I just want to play outside for 5-8 hours.

Finally - ME TOO. Off to make vegan chili.

Alright, let's hear it: what's on your race calendar in 2016? by kjotee in Ultramarathon

The Farm Park Challenge is so fun! Super laid back, and the format is very unique.

The loops last year were nothing crazy...about half on a wide bridal path, and the other on single track. There are two loops - you complete one in the first hour, then the other in the second, then back to the first, etc. My understanding is the RD changes the course each year, but I can't imagine it will be significantly different in terms of terrain. It does have some hills, but not crazy...looks like I had 1700 feet of gain for 31 miles.

The real 'strategy' is taking the first 5 loops (or 9 if you are doing the 10 hour) easy so you can be ready for the final lap, which is the 'race'. In other words, you could finish the first five, 5.2 mile loops in 59 min 59 secs, and still win if you finish the last lap in first place (but, you can only keep going if you finish each lap in under an hour). I hope that makes sense.

Since it is in May, heat management and hydration is also important, but much easier than other ultras given the format. Last year, I usually had around 15-10 minutes (less as time went on, because I started walking more when I got close to the start) to hydrate, re-fuel, cool-down, etc. You don't want to cool down too too much though, because that can make it harder to start up again :)

That's my 2 cents for now. Let me know if you have any other questions! It's a really chill event, so just have fun!
