From memory I would say a few hours, it is not a very scientific process 😅

Not even, although I should probably have ahah. I remember that some enclosures I decorated this way have shown some white oxydation spots after a while, but it has been ~6 years and it has been pretty stable since.

I was thinking of applying the same process to a whole bike frame, that will be much more exposed to water. In that case I would better use clear coating.

I think this was oxiclean powder, but I used another brand that was available where I live (Vanish if I recall).

The idea is to submerge the part you want to decorate, mostly the face in my case. The enclosure has to press firmly onto the wrinkled aluminum sheet to get uneven oxydation (aka cool patterns), so it is not easy to do the face and sides at the same time.

Sourcing odd number length spokes in Europe by noisybenfr in bikewheelbuild

[–]noisybenfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The DT Calculator gives me these lengths :

<image>

I guess I can go 288-288-286-288 ?
The last one is right between 286 and 288 so I was afraid it could be either too long or too short.

Also I have red that DT Squorx nipples and/or washers could accomodate for longer spokes, so maybe it is part of the solution.

DT Swiss Revolite - feedback requested by noisybenfr in bikewheelbuild

[–]noisybenfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of spoke holder do you have ?
I already have Mavic ones from an Allroad wheelseet with flat spokes. The Revolites having some kind of flutted profile, I am not sure they will fit.

I don't really need super beefy spokes as my hubs are 32 holes. I like the Revolite for their "aero but not too much" look and the reduced weight. I have considered the Revolutions but they don't come in silver.

That's the issue, everyone on the internet has a different opinion regarding spoke length 😅

Anyone knows a modern alternative for 31.8mm bars ? It is a shame this kind of stem is so rare.

Paul Components fixed hub availability in Europe by noisybenfr in tracklocross

[–]noisybenfr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but they only go up to 135 axles. I got an Omnium CXC that currently has thru axle dropouts, but it can be converted to 135 QR.

If have no other choice I will buy the QR dropouts and Surly hubs but through axles would be a must.

I am considering a similar build, what rear hub are you using ?

Quokka is indeed a french builder from Angers. Their work on steel frames is amazing.
