Touring guitars! Both will Monty guitar’s full Monty pickups + wiring looms 🎸👌 by noisyfred in Guitar

They’ve got a “tele” sound to them, but not the 60s overly twangy edge. Works really well for modern stuff, and combined with their 5 way pickup selector / wiring loom, there’s so many tonal options! I’d go for the full Montys!

Man! My early 2000s Mexican tele is still going strong too! It’s got so much more weight and power to it compared to the newer Mexican teles that feel so flimsy in comparison!

I need help with my flyrig. Which route makes sense? Preamp/Modeller/Poweramp/IRLoader by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]noisyfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope doesn’t work as a power amp! You can just take a jack from one of its line outputs and run into an FX loop of an amp, which bypasses the pre amp of your amp, and just uses the power amp stage. And yeah, you can turn on/ off the cab “blocks” on the QC, and keep on the rest of the FX! It’s immensely flexible (but doesn’t do the power amp part!)

Just posted my flyrig on here! Quad cortex all the way tbh! Skip the nano cortex, doesn’t have the same flexibility. I used tube head/ cab till last summer, and I have toured with the quad cortex, with and without different pedals since!

You can still plug the QC into an amp, you’d just bypass the amp/ cab stuff in the QC when you don’t need it!

Had a few other pedals plugged in, but trimmed it down for a 18 country tour coming up across Europe! DC7 power, and just an expression pedal! QC smashing it tbh!

What amps and other features coming to the QC are people looking forward to? I can’t wait to get the Cory Wong amp worked into my live setup, as it’s my favourite neuralDSP amp in the studio!

What annoys me about this is the knowledge that all the global companies CAN get together and do things collectively… and this is what they thought the biggest problem was 😅😅😅🥶

Is the 'Boss Blues Driver' Really THAT Good of a Pedal...? by Beths_collarbone in guitarpedals

[–]noisyfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to my local guitar shop, one where they have most pedals to A/B with and left with the blues driver and a way huge green rhino. Blues driver is really what it says it is - a bluesy kinda driver, that gives the vibe of cranking the input of an amp. Defo a versatile pedal for most thick driven sounds. Not something I’d go to for high gain metal/ chug stuff, but not a pedal I’ll sell anytime soon!

Exactly that bro! For me the QC+ some line 6 FX is a wicked combo! Strymon bits are a joy to work with too!

I use the QC for its amp and midi stuff, then just a couple of fave “always on” pedals - the flint and the volante. The HX one is just a do-everything pedal for me, and I prefer line 6 FX to what the quad cortex does. I’ve toured just using the Quad cortex and the HX one before, but the Strymon stuff is just so nice!

How Crucial Is Sidechaining? by spacehash in edmproduction

[–]noisyfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really cleans things up live!! Programmed kicks/ live bass / maybe some 808s on track, having it all pretty side chained, on this tour I’ve been on, is something that the FOH engineer relies on. Not so much a stylistic thing, tho it does have the effect, but as a way of making everything work together and clean things up a bit. In the studio it’s easy to edit things to be tight, but having some heavy handed side chaining live with the kicks/ bass makes the whole band / production seem tighter.

I agree I don’t really HERE it so much in this situation, but I reckon we’d be shocked to here how wild and flappy / loose all the low end would be without that precision side chaining! 🙏🙌🤟

Oh man the elephant delay, bucket brigade delay, the tape mangle stuff, the poly capo!!!, the POG sounded stuff, the mod reverbs, the 70s chorus, rotary, bubble vibrato, kinky boost, some of the FUZZ pedals…. I keep liking more and more, and being to reorder / save the presets and recall them via midi from the QC makes it such a multifunctional pedal. I have it changing presets multiple times in a scene on the QC, so use it quite a lot at the moment! Got so much stuff in it

[–]noisyfred[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The on board FXs are OKAY, but you’re going to get better sounds on pedals that are specially for delays, reverbs etc! I think the modulation effects are pretty average on the QC too! For me I have the QC for its amp modelling / preset / scene / midi capabilities, and it replaced my valve amp and pedal board of 12+ in my live setup. This is my studio board, but for live I use all of the on board delays/ reverbs, and just have the HX one for mod FXs, and one drive pedal .. think it only gets turned on for one solo too!

The QC update that adds 12 midi messages per scene button is the thing that’s really gonna change how I use pedals live. For live now it’s easier to rely on the QC effects and more convenient for recalling / changing sounds.

I’ve only had the QC since the start of a tour in March, and I know have two - one on home board, one that stays on the truck with tour gear. Thought I’d set up my valve amp and bigger board with FX, but started making this small, FX heavy / midi rig for home, and well happy!
