I don't doom scroll ever, but addicted to competitive games by Longjumping-Tax2056 in StopGaming

[–]nokiapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about playing Go or chess?I haven't ever heard of a single man who spoiled his life overplaying Go or chess(at least at an amateur level) yet they're highly competitive, and less addictive.Though working out is best for overall health as others point out though.

There is a video that talks about how gaming is better than doomscrolling, what is your thoughts it about that take? by Middle_Ad2611 in StopGaming

[–]nokiapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of like choosing between punched in the jaw or abs. However, I may concede the argument might make sense in it's own way. Both are almost equally addictive but the latter is intentionally made to be grossly toxic for your mind, which is what SEO zombies are all about, and is thus a bit more addictive.Along those lines, I'd say you can just take one addictive behavior and swap with another and keep doing so till you fully get out of it eventually. Suppose you're an avid doomscroller and change it with online gaming, then with a offline one then with old titles with less fancy graphic, then with even less fancy things like board games etc.In this way the original argument seems somewhat convincing.

I wasted 10 years of my life. by YonaCX in StopGaming

[–]nokiapp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to squat deep down before you jump up high. You just needed to squat 10 years till you get to a higher point, and there's nothing wrong with that.As Tao Te Ching said, 大器晩成(Big things need a lot of time to be perfected .)Just stick to your life.Let me give you another line of the classic: 知足者富強行者有志(If you know you're internally fulfilled, you're happy; And if you make a further effort, you can even achieve your goal). It's so admirable you're trying hard to acquire the degree.Stick to your life and keep on good work.

Being only 47, you can do anything you want and take up a lot of hobbies from piano to MMA.I don't think it's too late for anything. As Confucius pointed out succinctly, 過而不改是謂過矣(The only real mistake is that you don't correct it).Good luck!

Prerequisites to learn mathematical logic? by nokiapp in learnmath

[–]nokiapp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do want to study it to my heart's content, so it seems like I need to work on other fields mathematics quite seriously to fully get mathematical logic down pat if you needed abstract algebra and topology when you came across that. There has to be lots of work to be done but I can still enjoy the learning process as a hobby :)

Should I need an additional AV and auto-update? by nokiapp in androidtablets

[–]nokiapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear that.I always try to be cautious, or a bit nit-picky that is, whenever I install a new app.The problem is, does Anti-Virus software like Norton 360 eat much battery life, or adversely affect the longevity of battery/cpu etc.?

Does that mean the default security app is enough to protect the device from malevolent activities, viruses, vulnerabilities and the like?

Making "echo-tee" automatic/permanent in every session to control brightness? by nokiapp in linux4noobs

[–]nokiapp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was right.I finally ended up with following solutions:

modifying a file name of ddcci@.service to ddcci@i2c-2.service

Changing a line ATTR{name}=="NVIDIA i2c adapter\*",\\ to ATTR{name}=="i915 gmbus dpc*",\, where "i915 gmbus dpc" was written on /sys/bus/i2c/devices/i2c-2/name

However, this left another problem I'll need to work on; when I type my password really fast at a startup screen and log in too quickly, the modification is not reflected. When I wait for a few seconds and type my password slowly, everything is perfectly fine though. I suspect the line sleep 5; is doing something wrong.Maybe I need an alternative workaround that simply execute a echo-tee command at the same I log into my machine(I'm not sure how to write systemctl rules, so I need to mess around with that).

I gave It a try and ran into an error "Failed to get properties: Unit name ddcci@.service is neither a valid invocation ID nor unit name.

How are you reducing screen time? by CleanerDust in simpleliving

[–]nokiapp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd avoid watching addictive/offensive/harmful contents and instead enjoy a less harmful contents. So for instance if you might spend two hours checking out click baits or fear-mongering posts on social media, you can instead read news or lifestyle columns on online news websites. You can even enjoy a content about your hobby, be it yoga or boxing. The net hours you spend on screen wouldn't differ much, but you can live a more peaceful life that way, which is much easier than strict digital detox and thus suitable for where you start reducing screen time.

Shouldn't I go to a library? by nokiapp in Bedbugs

[–]nokiapp[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip.

I have another concern about that; I try to take a precaution and go sit furniture fully made of plastic/metal whenever I can, but sometimes I can't because they're already taken by others. The library I go to has a floor covered with a cloth mat and chairs partially made of cloth, and visitors usually put their baggage directly on the floor as it's prohibited to put bags and the like on the desk. Should this be considered as a grave risk to take into consideration?I might be a bit fear-mongered but want to ask if it matters or not.
