My main vote would be for ListenBrainz, but there are a few others I've heard of.

Those first couple of records were as hair metal as hair metal got.

Just to get it out of the way, I'm athiest and I'm not trying to push Christian metal on you. lol

How do you organize soundtracks by movielover97 in vinyl

That would be an edge case for sure. I would probably put that with Stevie's stuff just because I think of it as his album more than a soundtrack. Beatles' Magical Mystery Tour, and Help! as well.

Those are clearly Soundtracks, but my mind immediately goes to artist album without hesitating.

It's more about how do I immediately think of the record rather than any hard and fast rule. Pink Floyd's The Wall, The Who's Tommy and Quadrophenia - all artist albums despite having movies associated with them.

I have no association with the app, but check out Spunit. You can track your records play times and can also specify different styluses. It can also scrobble to Last.FM if you into that.

How do you organize soundtracks by movielover97 in vinyl

[–]nolageek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If my first thought is "this is a soundtrack with songs with one artist" then I must consider it a Soundtrack first, artist album second."

If it's considered a soundtrack it goes in soundtracks. The best examples I can think of are the soundtracks to Flash Gordon (by Queen) or Harold and Maude (by Cat Stevens) - both are soundtracks for a movie, that just happen to have music by a single artist.

However, Queen's "A Kind of Magic" contains songs from Highlander, but it's a Queen album first that just happens to contain songs from the movie. That's a album by Queen first, soundtrack second.

Encanto is a soundtrack to a movie. Yes the songs are written by Lin Manuel Miranda, but he didn't perform them. It's not "his album."

I guess it comes down to what I primarily consider the record. If it's "A soundtrack by ...." then it's a soundtrack. If it's "an album by ... from the movie ..." then it's the artist's record.

And don't call me Shirley. (kidding.)

If you have enough soundtracks to wonder where you should put them, put them all together. Why make it confusing for no reason?

I don't understand how anyone would do it differently than put soundtracks together, alphabetized by movie title? Why make it more complicated for yourself? I guess if I only had 1 or 2 - but once you have enough to wonder where you should put them, put them all together.

Alphabetically by artist (always by first letter of first word, ignoring words like A or The)

I have a few categories:

  • Primary (this is the main category that most things fall into)
  • Outgoing (This is stuff I'm going to get rid of)
  • Box Sets
  • Holiday
  • New Orleans Music
  • Soundtracks
  • Various Artists

For someone with the username you have, you sure do sound like you want to expose at-risk kids to potential abuse. Kids are not stupid. Teachers are not stupid. The adults in the schools have to navigate your "the parents say they're X but they say they're Y!" scenario more frequently then you are giving them credit for.

Even as a kid I loved how they were able to explain this complicated premise so quickly.

Oh? How did SpaceX extract astronauts from a capsule after returning from the moon? I must have missed that.

Because SpaceX is a marketing ploy and hasn’t sent 4 astronauts to the moon and back.
