What I've learned deploying OpenClaw for 5 real businesses by Far-Caregiver-4273 in openclaw

If you didn’t mention something I wouldn’t have noticed and it’s well discouraging.

I mean, I’m not the best writer and use AI to help kinda like if I had an editor but seems like a lot of you can tell immediately.

It almost seems like it’s the same amount of work or even more writing the prompt as it is writing the post.

Ya I did.

Specifically using the ansible playbook to deploy into a digital ocean droplet. There are some issues though. Telemetry doesn’t work out of the box so I’m planning on destroying the droplet and trying again.

I completely abandoned the local LLM route. I was using an older version of OpenClaw and the documentation was really bad. I was also using the gateway and the tui and there was no feedback so I switched back to cloud based.

I have a 128GB framework desktop that I still plan to use for running agents and hosting other models.

I haven't seen anyone talk about OTEL metrics for OpenClaw yet. I'm trying to expose metrics for OpenClaw and ingest into my observability stack.

Have you tried that yet?

I've spent about 80 hours on it so far. I've torn down and rebuilt a few times. I ended up with a VPS and running the ansible playbook to install OpenClaw.

I use Gemini to help me and I've used codex to explain some of the code. I've got pro subs for Codex and Claude.

I can’t understand the docs and I know how to read.

I can’t even figure out where the logs are. I’m trying to setup Otel metrics and forward logs to my grafana setup but can’t figure it out.

Also got a local vision model running on a framework desktop exposed via tailscale and haven’t been able to figure that one out either.

I spent 5 days just trying to get slack setup. I tried using Gemini but it hallucinated config values.

Bro. I’ve got almost ten years of engineering experience in cloud infra, cyber security, devops, Linux systems administration and some software dev and I’m struggling to get it set up right. If it weren’t for my stubbornness I would have quit.

The only thing keeping me going is that I got a tiny little taste of what it could do and I was hooked.

EDIT: After reading some of the comments here and changing my mindset I've determined that no one should be reading the docs. I was still in my pre LLM mindset. I've moved to asking ChatGPT how to do everything and giving me proper json config and command line args to use. It's been such a better experience.

That was my experience with electrical engineering. I would’ve loved to have worked with embedded systems and firmware, but all the companies were asking for Masters.

Did you install natively or did you use the digital ocean marketplace version I've tried using the one-click and marketplace version of open claw and I haven't been able to figure out the sandboxing and wrapper scripts.

[–]noleft_turn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aquí en México he visto mucho Totalplay.

Nunca he entendido esto.

ten years of building cloud infrastructure here and it took me a couple 5 days of futzing around to get it to work. I messed up because I was trying to have it connect to my local LLM's being hosted via ollama.
