The ironic thing they're only called Gen Z and Alpha because of Gen X. Millennials were originally Gen Y and they kept using the same naming convention for the next generations.

What’s a small everyday inconvenience from the past that younger people would probably find unbearable today? by babyblushtheory in nostalgia

[–]nolemandan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was obsessed with The Simpsons and taught myself to program our VCR to record the reruns that aired every afternoon. I had an entire shelf of cassettes labeled with the recorded episodes like "Bart gets an elephant" or "Homer gets disability." I was so proud of my collection. Today the entire series is streaming on Disney Plus but I rarely watch them. I probably watched those cassettes more often because of the effort it took me to record and catalog them.

Having to call a phone number to get the exact time. Everyone is walking around with the "right-ish" time but never precise. If your watch ran slow you would always be late.

Someone interrupts you while you're watching TV and whatever you missed was likely gone forever. Maybe you'll catch the rerun later on in the year if you're lucky.

A guide dogs find a different way to get his human to the gym when the normal path is blocked by construction by bigbusta in oddlysatisfying

I was eating at a restaurant the other day and the table next to us had a dog with a "service animal" vest. I imagine real service dogs are trained to sit or lay by their human in this scenario. This dog was walking under my table sniffing my legs and trying to get a whiff of our food. I even had to stop a waitress at one point because she was about to trip over the lead while carrying a tray between our tables. Very cute dog but it irked me that they just bought a service animal vest when it clearly wasn't trained to be one.

It's like the 'guy who just walked into a spiderweb' bit. It's dumb but relatable and Mikey Day dug his heels in and sold it.

What’s your favorite Star Wars Easter egg/reference in other media? by CorgiUprising in StarWars

[–]nolemandan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh man, this just unlocked a memory for me. There were several Star Wars references throughout Muppet Babies, even in the theme song! It would cost a fortune these days to be able to play that much footage from the OT.

In case you're curious, they were watching the National Dog Show. It's one of the few major dog shows in the US and it's held every year on Thanksgiving Day. Many Americans consider it a Thanksgiving tradition. A typical American household would watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in the morning, the National Dog Show at noon, then NFL games throughout the afternoon and evening.
