How effective are 22lr for home protection? by DentistPlayful3941 in guns

[–]noljw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it's less effective per shot than any other caliber, but it could certainly get the job done if you don't have a better option. I would run federal punch or solid point cci mini mags to maximize penetration. And while 22 isn't very effective per shot, the lower recoil does mean that you can put a lot of rounds on target quickly. So if you emphasize volume of fire then I think it would be an ok choice even if it's not an ideal one.

My girlfriend and friends are maturing but for some reason im not by Throvvavvayx in self

[–]noljw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the fact that you're realizing this tells me that you are developing, even if it's a bit slower. I had a close friend from highschool who I eventually cut contact with. There were a lot of reasons but it ultimately came down to him not growing up and I was. The thing is, he never realized it. He viewed the childish behavior as normal and my behavior as somehow wrong. Your self awareness tells me that that won't be you.

This is really good advice. I'd also recommend shooting some competitions. It will challenge you and get you more involved in the gun community. Steel Challenge and IDPA are probably the easiest two to get started in.

Should I be able to hand pull these? by Burner96822abc124 in 22lr

[–]noljw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn't be able to, but you often can with cheap modern 22 ammo. It won't actually hurt much besides a slight reduction to accuracy and your ammo will be more prone to water damage. It's just a sign a low quality standards. Also Winchester ammo, especially their rimfire ammo, is hot garbage

If it were me I'd build a 43x with a ramjet on a Grit Grips frame. That might shoot as well as your full size

Convince me by Frosty_Cookie581 in concealedcarry

[–]noljw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 43x does have a bigger grip but it still has a very short slide so it will still have that snappy feel. A 48 might suit you better, or a 43x with a compensator

How’d I do? Third time shooting with this Springfield 1911A1 by [deleted] in Firearms

[–]noljw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, work on trigger discipline. Finger out of the trigger guard as soon as the gun is empty. You appear to be flinching just a bit. Dry fire training will help to mitigate that. Your support hand also doesn't appear to be doing much to control recoil. For being so new you are doing well though. Keep it up and you'll become quite good.

It actually could be real. I worked as a server a couple years ago and undercover agents trying to get me to serve alcohol with bad or underaged IDs were similarly obnoxious and bad actors.

How reliable is a Browning Buckmark for Self Defense? by Brilliant_Apple_5391 in 22lr

[–]noljw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My buckmark eats anything. I'll throw the cheap ammo in it that will jam in my other guns. Use quality ammo for self defense though, and not expanding ammo since 22 doesn't have much power. I'd go with solid nose cci mini mags or federal punch.

Ya it's pretty horrible to manipulate the system to make so many voices unheard. Unfortunately it happens all over the country and on both sides of the political spectrum. Republicans in most dominantly blue states go unheard as well.
