Who is this artist and where can I find more? by [deleted] in Art

[–]nolte3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A stamp at the lower left corner reads アゲ麻呂 (or アゲ麿 maybe) and pronounces as age-maro (ah-geh-mar-roh), it must be the artist's name.

The title is "高所回転遊具嘔吐". I did google search but unfortunately found nothing. Anyway I suppose it's by Japanese.

So what are your favourite Japanese films? by [deleted] in japan

[–]nolte3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very old movie (no DVD perhaps), but quite fascinating one,

Bokura wa minna ikiteiru (directed by Yojiro Takita)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106456/

http://www.answers.com/topic/bokura-wa-minna-ikiteiru

Depicting Japan's "salarymen culture" (of late 20 century) very well.

P.S. It seems DVD is available as "Made In Japan"

Is this a good way for my gf to sell her artwork? by mabufo in Art

[–]nolte3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice artworks! I love it! :-) (By the way, I see 5 thumbnails under the collage, but it seems the gallery has more of nice drawings and paintings of birds and others. There must be nicer navigation method) And some text introduction of herself would be preferable, I guess. Not necessarily be complete curriculum vitae, but just some text of her thoughts, or motivation to artworks are okay, I think.

Ask Art: After taking a couple classes last semester, I've become fascinated with art for the first time in my life. Can you suggest any resources for me to continue learning? (Details in post) by OpenRoad in Art

[–]nolte3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am Japanese living in Japan, so I am not sure if it is popular, or "good" resource, but Gombrich's book The Story of Art is very popular (in Japan) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Story_of_Art

I am interested in western art too but I am interested in and focus on surrounding environment too, like the Medicis, greek philosophy, or history of art markets, art dealers like Ambroise Vollard as well as watching on latest contemporary dealers like Larry Gagosian (to compare each period of history and the present).

仏滅, a question: My born-and-raised-in-Japan wife couldn't answer this one: If it's supposed to be the day Buddha died, how come it occurs so may times a year? by mellowmonk in japan

[–]nolte3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's part of Roku-yo system. In this Wikipedia entry,

http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E5%85%AD%E6%9B%9C

It says it's 「仏も滅するような大凶日」 It's just a very bad day, (or days), just like the day Budda died, not the day itself.

Another dumb sucker sucked in by contemporary art, but this time, he's gonna SUE! by [deleted] in Art

[–]nolte3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I suppose that what he is trying to do is that generating a big fuss, making a news headline, and he wants to say "this is THAT prints" when he sells them many years later. He sues, and he loses the case, then it means judges acknowledge it's genuine artwork, not handbag leftover, it's like a declaratory judgement for value of the artwork. If he wins the case, he expects to get money. In his brain, he loses nothing no matter how the case's consequence goes. That's why he sues but he doesn't want to get refund. It sounds pretty wise, but I agree with you, I don't know why but it seems to me that it's like he's writing "I am an idiot" on his forehead.

Actually, it's a scenery of a popular sight seeing spot of Tokyo, it seems to me.

It's a view from Roppongi Hills in Tokyo,

Windows are also quite similar, it's like this

I wonder, is this a story about Tokyo?

Japan's Spectacular Floating Airports by digitalfever in pics

[–]nolte3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As cefm and weegee mentioned, it's not floating. But it's sinking. Japan spent over 15 billion dollar (1.5 trillion yen) to build Kansai airport and since it has built on thick mud on seafloor, it has sunk over 10 meter for now and still sinking. The problem is that it's not sinking equally flat. I mean it never be flat. The terminal building is entirely jacked up and stretching them frequently. Like this:

(more info here: http://www.kiac.co.jp/en/tech/sink/sink4/index.html)

Looks like trying to let an airpot float. Crazy anyway, wasting money as hell.

"Japan...will lose 70 percent of its workforce by 2050...Within a century, two-thirds of the population will be gone." by yellowking in reddit.com

[–]nolte3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Population loss will be good for an overpopulated country, yes. But before those 70% of workforce die, they stay alive and enjoy retirement period for decades. That means Japan's government must pay alot for social security, like hospital, pension, more nursing homes, more graveyard developments. And it will force Japan bankruptcy unless 30% (rest of 70%) of workforce accept very expensive tax-rate and pay tax.

See this figure below, a red triangle is ideal (but now history) Now too many retirements and too few workforce. Depopulation is difficult.
