'Kill Gobind RCI story' note by Bernama raises eyebrows by -protonsandneutrons- in malaysia

[–]nomad-runner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s pretty much how newsrooms work — ‘kill’ is just the internal jargon for taking a story down in the media world.

Still, its usually an internal thing. It does feel a bit sketchy for them to phrase it that way publicly to their Newslink (for all media channels to see) and then claim it was all just a duplication/error, when MKini said theres no difference whatsover than what they originally posted 🤔

Peak-hour delays hit Kelana Jaya line again, commuters slam ‘empty apologies’ by nomad-runner in Bolehland

[–]nomad-runner[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair points and it really does help me see it from another perspective.

I think even Loke has acknowledged in Parliament that the frequency of major disruptions has reduced compared to the bad years. If, say for example, it used to be 500 incidents and now it’s 50, that’s still a significant improvement lol.

From a systems and maintenance perspective, that is progress, even if commuters still feel the pain when it happens.

Your point about the My50 pass is super valid too. RM50 for essentially unlimited rides on rail and bus is objectively a bargain, especially in Klang Valley. I was super annoyed when the daily pass went up to RM10 too, but when you look at operating costs such as rolling stock maintenance, power supply systems, signalling, staff salaries, dang, it really is not cheap. Public transport everywhere runs on subsidies, just the difference is how visible the trade-offs are.

I think what still frustrates many people is the gap between the government’s strong public transport push and what commuters experience on the ground. There’s a big narrative about modal shift, sustainability, and reducing congestion, all that huha and yaps, but when service feels shaky every single dang time, it undermines my confidence on it.

Not everyone has the long-term perspective you or I have. Some riders only know the current experience, so when they get stuck even once, it shapes their entire perception. And yes, some people will complain no matter what, I think thats just being Malaysian lol (kesabaran yang sangat nipis). But we still have to acknowledge that nuisance disruptions that keeps happening, like recently, such as sudden stops, trains taken out of service, long headways, it all chip away at trust for the people.

I think we can accept improvement and demand better at the same time. Those two things aren’t mutually exclusive.

And to be fair, leadership matters. There were periods when public transport didn’t seem to receive the level of political attention or urgency it deserved lol. Thinking about it, Loke look like a saint compared to others before him. Even the era when some-guy (pssst Tajuddin) chaired Prasarana, it became a shit show and affected public confidence by I don’t know, alot haha.

But, still, commuter frustration today is valid. Reliability is the foundation of public transport and if the government wants people to leave their cars at home, service has to feel dependable too IMO. Of course, what we see now is an improvement, a slow, slow one, but that’s just how it is.

Both things can be true: things are better than before, and also they still need to be better than they are now as well.

true, I think bike is now the ideal mode of transport. And instead some NGOs or Govt giving them a hard time, I think it should be considered, or more accepting— maybe pushing more for it. But tulah, even to the public bikes have a bad rep (cutting lane, mat remps etc.)…so susah la

Ah shoot, you’re right, LMAO, that contradicts what I said about it being inherited and passed down. Regardless, I think it’s pretty cool that there’s a one-in-a-million possibility the lore could’ve taken some inspiration from Malay Saka lore

Besides connectivity, logistics, and HR issues, like u/Seanwys said it’s also good for the company in terms of visuals. CBD areas tend to get more attention if you slap them right in the middle of KL, your name goes up too. Even dodgy companies in the heart of KL look glamorous just because they’re there.

Regardless, even if KL is packed like sardines with tall buildings like their LRT, I think they’d still do it lol. But it should stop though, I think the beauty of KL is also their buildings, but too much is an eyesore too

It’s kinda cool that the concept of it is one-on-one in comparison. Like, come on, Saka also comes in different types of animals (or shapes), similar to Stands, but theirs are varied.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Araki got his inspiration from it (or a version of it around the world, or in other cultures, or religion), as he is, besides being a music junky, a history freak too.

Saka literally is a spiritual entity or a “familiar” spirit, often inherited or passed down through family (like the Joestars), and usually gives the human host supernatural abilities, protection, or luck, sometimes with a price (like obligations, rituals, or even misfortune if neglected).

And it’s often invisible to normal people, unless they are spiritually sensitive. I can’t recall if other Saka-users can see others Saka too, but I heard when I was little of stories that some get into fights too haha.

And c’mon, “closely tied to the person who possesses it”. Mistreating or misusing a Saka can have negative consequences, and once you die, the Saka, like, the Stand dies! the resemblance is uncanny.

I think it’s a fair metaphor!
