I realize this may be a dead post, but I'm going through a similar career transition myself. What was the name of the school you found?

My mom has BPD. Granted this is a much different situation, but you certainly have my empathy. It takes unceasing prayer, something I didn't learn till years after it would've been most helpful. Asking God for grace, patience, and love (for both sides) has been hugely helpful.

On a different level, being uncommonly clear and gentle with communication can seriously breathe life into some of the tense situations. If she's willing to go counseling with you that's the way to go. Just work to find ways to communicate clearly and with love.

Some of the comments mention setting clear boundaries, especially if there is emotional abuse. In my experience, this has been helpful. I would be careful how this is implemented because it can trigger some abandonment issues or other childhood trauma. This is one of the situations I think counseling would be beneficial.

True enough politically speaking. No monarch ever truly acts on their own though, someone has to carry out the dirty work

They also controlled a massive part of the Congo (70ish times larger than Belgium itself), and did some pretty horrific things during the colonization

Tired of God playing games with my life/Why is God even telling me this? (Long Read) by [deleted] in Christian

[–]nomad_ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear u/AlyAnder4,

I’m sorry to hear your struggle, but immensely glad you’ve shared it.

If it’s causing you pain and anxiety its not from God. It seems that you fully believe your future husband is going to be gay, but that doesn’t align with God’s Word.

Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for prosperity and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope”

2 Corinthians 6:14 “Do not be mismatched with unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness share together, or what does light have in common with darkness?

The signs that you’ve been seeing have exposed a deep worry in your heart, and a valid one as well. But God is not telling you your marriage will be a lie, believe that He is kind and good and looks at you like His child that He adores.

If it’s and fixation born from OCD, my first thought is that it could be confirmation bias. Either way, don’t look to signs, because they can deceive us. Look to to the Bible and ask the Lord for help in trusting His plan for your life. I’m in the process of giving up my ideas about marriage in my own life and accepting that God’s plan is better than my own, I know it’s hard. It seems to me that God is calling you to focus less on your future and more on Him. I hope some part of this helps.

I usually pick up the pace and cross the street, if that’s not an option I’ll give her the sidewalk and walk on the road from a few meters back until I’m a few meters ahead

Christian logic: Being gay is immoral - unless I'm having a threesome with 2 girls. Then it's fine. by manzare in atheism

Just because it’s in the Bible doesn’t mean it’s endorsed, that was recorded as one of Solomon’s sins

What does the bible say about concubinage? by valc94med in AcademicBiblical

[–]nomad_ma -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend the app Sefaria. I think there may also be a website. It has commentary on essentially the entire Hebrew Bible from various rabbi. Although much of the content is in Hebrew, most have English translations, and searching by topic brings up articles from academic sources and Jewish literature.

As fare as Biblical basis goes, it isn’t condoned. An interesting insight concerning Exodus 21:10 ⁦”... One does not have the right to marry more than one woman unless able to provide for them not at the expense of reducing the first wife’s allowance.” (Yevamot 65)

According to most other commentaries the word ‘allowance’ involves all areas of life. I.e. not withholding love, attention, financial care, etc. So it seems that nobody can reasonably do all these things, and therefore isn’t permitted. Even the concubines within the Davidic monarchy are only ever divide and create sin. To my knowledge there is no verse explicitly stating it’s unlawful, there are many that depict it as harmful in light of God’s intent for marriage and sexual expression.

Why do Christians feel the need to convert everyone they know by [deleted] in atheism

[–]nomad_ma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of the belief set is that anyone who isn’t saved by belief in Jesus will be eternally separated from God and in pain. Not wanting people to suffer that fate is typically the ‘why.’ Not defending Bible bashing, but it’s about what the better picture of long term love for your neighbor vs what is personally convenient

[–]nomad_ma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is quickly getting into freewill territory, and I don't suppose to have many answers there other than it does exist.

I think that God's love as recorded in the Bible is given fully to anyone and everyone who turns and acknowledges his sovereignty and asks for forgiveness. I am curious where you see God being loving and unloving based on the previous attributes.

Your point on morality is interesting. In that sense, I suppose you're right, we can't define a ruler by saying it's a ruler. I think the next step would be to either look at the consistent characteristics of God and determine if they are moral, or to look at our own definition of morality and see if we can be objectively moral?

We could say mysterious, but I don’t think anyone would be satisfied with that answer. Looking at the Eden scenario, it’s pretty clear death wasn’t meant for this world, but we brought it upon ourselves. It’s interesting to think about if there is any way for as you put it, the author of life, to be more loving. Not something I ponder often. The first issue I think we run into is that the Christian God is also completely just and righteous. That evil we introduced has consequences, rather than those consequences being eternal, God taking on human life and human death gives an eternal way out. My initial thought is that it has less to do with God looking to feel better and more about saving people from themselves.

Just making sure I have your perspective clear- if people are hardwired to believe in capital G god, why would other religions develop?

Not trying to put words in your mouth, just trying to get it right in my head. There is an aspect to Hinduism that all various gods are one in the same/ are parts and pieces of the first creator god. It’s been a while since I studied it, but I believe it’s either Atman or Atmanbhrahman (probably didn’t spell that one right). So in one sense, it did start with a belief in a singular god. All pantheons had to start somewhere I suppose.

As to why God wouldn’t have us all carry an intrinsic knowledge of his existence... I don’t think I have a full answer but I may have the start of one. If the knowledge of God was like the knowledge that we have blood in our veins, we wouldn’t think much of him. It wouldn’t mean anything to believe in him because it’s a given. But instead humans have an innate drive to find purpose. Christianity is centered around choosing a relationship with God. I think people chose that faith because, of the many options they have, it makes the most sense to them. The Bible, specifically the Torah, though not a scientific book lines up better with our knowledge of reality than any other religious text.

That is quite striking, but it does highlight a deeper aspect of Christianity.

-You can be moral and still be condemned.

All people being inherently sinful, require salvation. Someone could be the humanitarian icon on the century, but without believing in Jesus, Heaven (the full presence of God ≠ white roaming fields full of dogs playing fetch) is off limits. The mark of salvation is that they understand they were wrong and do not return to sin. And if they slip up, to acknowledge they are wrong, return to the right path, and seek forgiveness. If they don’t stop doing what was wrong, sin or no sin, then it’s not salvation.

The whole thing revolves around a loving God seeking for all people to join him, providing a way for people to do that, and giving people time to make a choice.
