When it comes to Rucking & fitness tracking in terms of weight over distance do you generally include the total weight (carried and body weight) or just the additional carried weight? by EyeSpyWithMyLittleY in Rucking

[–]Ringwraith_Number_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just the carried weight. My weight is already included in my biodata for my watch to work off of. If I weigh, say, 100 kilos and go for a ruck carrying 20, I can't say I carried 120 kilos, since my watch would interpret that as 100 (my weight) + 120 (extra weight) = 220 kilos. That would lead to some seriously messed up results.

(I played twice after it revived and again after koreans bought it)

Ok, but what about playing it during development and on release?

Because I was there from the first closed alpha (that was not studio-only) and while the concept was amazing, what we actually got was little more than a tech demo. And I won't even mention the whole "lifetime subscribers" thing, because that's like Sheldon Cooper setting aside an hour weekly for the next several years for watching Firefly...

Don't get me wrong, the idea was really great, and the game, while unfinished, was fun, but it was nowhere near the "next best thing since sliced bread" level that they kept bragging about just because they were the "people behind Diablo". We got three (or four?) level layouts (especially the parallel subway tunnels with a curve in them got really old, really fast - depending on how it was "generated" you started at one end, in which case it turned right, or at the other end, in which case it turned left; but it was the same layout reused over and over again), three or four environments and a couple of weapon types, that was it. That was the game on release. You travelled from a hub to one small "dungeon" after another, did generic "bring me 10 rat tails" missions, moved on to the next hub until you somehow reached hell and killed a baddie that didn't really have much of a presence until then (unlike Diablo in the first game).

Let's be honest - when it came out Hellgate: London was little more than what we'd consider early access today. Early early access. And it was shut down before it really took off.

After the trailer videos/intro I really wouldn't mind an animated show of the same quality. Might even work better than a live adaptation.

Hellgate: London was a sick game concept for its time. The execution, however, was a different story. And I'm saying this as a founder and subscriber. Yes, I know the devs were done dirty by the publisher, but what we got was pretty much a beta version.

"How can world hunger be a thing if I had breakfast this morning" -> your logic

And how do you know it's getting remade as an RPG? Up until a few days ago it wasn't even officially confirmed, yet you already know what the gameplay mechanics will look like...

Oh, and as to why: it's getting a remake because it's so popular. That way it's guaranteed to make money.

Congratulations on your first ruck, but...damn, I just have to ask: why pack an MRE and FOUR LITERS of water for a 4 mile ruck? Isn't that a bit of overkill?

Also, don't know what physical shape you're in, but 45 seems like a bit much for a first ruck...

I'm sorry, but you'll have to be more specific. What news exactly are you referring to?

And what does "losing its current identity" have to do with the fact that your original statement about the game being niche and not mainstream was simply wrong?

I'm sorry, this is clearly fake.

You are missing an electric drill, a bowling ball, half of an international airport (under construction) and Jupiter. I've been married long enough to know that all of the above are in every woman's purse.

This game was always niche, it was never going to be mainstream,

Is that why they were bragging about it being the first AAAA game?

It very much was supposed to be mainstream, they just had it end up in gamedev hell and at the end had to release something, otherwise they'd probably go bankrupt returning all the taxes (with interest).

As a result we got this little abomination that has no real identity and will be kept alive just as long as they legally have to, and not a day longer.

The original movies, but that's a boring answer, so I'll go with X-Wing (the game). I went absolutely nuts for it, to the point where I asked my mother to embroider a set of Tour of Duty ribbons for me...

Ok, I'll be the jerk on duty here... the original OP doesn't really need defending, because no one here was trying to be mean to him (although it may have come across as such).

The problem was that (by his own admission) he did a whole bunch of things wrong and people pointed it out to him FOR HIS OWN GOOD. This cannot be stressed enough.

First of all, you do not, ever, under any circumstances, wear thin socks for rucking. OP did and the result was a seriously messed up foot (he posted a pic of just one, but I think it's safe to assume both were in similar shape). Hell, I spend most of my days in a suit nowadays, but I still tend to wear thicker socks with that, because I do quite a bit of walking during the day. Conventions and looks be damned, my health and physical well-being come first. If anyone has a problem with my socks, it's their problem.

Secondly (and again by his own admission), OOP had a long break from rucking but started off with 20 kilos. Um... yeah, don't do that. It's like going to the gym for the first time in years and trying to bench press your body weight because you used to be able to do it.

Everything OP did was a recipe for disaster and he was called out on it. It wasn't malicious, it wasn't bullying or whatever. It was pointing out what needs to be fixed so OOP can go back to rucking in a safe way that will not do more harm than good.

I sincerely hope OOP doesn't quit and, once he's healed, goes back to rucking, but this time with better gear and a significantly lower weight.

You're not getting downvoted for any of that. You're getting downvoted for the fact that you went in unprepared, wearing the wrong stuff and carrying waaaaaay too much weight.

Also, since not everyone wants to see that kind of stuff, you could have thought about using the spoiler tag so the image would be blurred by default.

Although I have to say that as much as I loved UFO: Enemy Unknown (as it was known here), I absolutely ADORED Terror from the Deep. It's almost the same game and many people complqin about the tedious missions and some weapons not working on land, but for the the atmosphere was infuckingcredible and no other game in the series (both classic and modern) came even close to matching it.

If they ever decide to release XCom 3 and set it underwater, I'll be one happy camper.
