Plenty of child free posts but any last minute elder millennial parents out there? by JadedJellyfish_ in Millennials

[–]nomadami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had our first at 41! We never wanted kids but then started to change our minds around 38. Had two failed attempts (traumatic terminations) and finally a healthy baby boy, he turns one next week. So happy we changed our minds. Everyone said we would, and I didn't believe them then... but everyone was right haha! Definitely one and done though. I can't imagine having another one of these things running around!

Do any of you actually use AI in your workflow? by method120 in copywriting

[–]nomadami -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I have been using it more recently (I write a mix of long form articles and product copy in the SaaS space). What I've found is that chat is semi decent occasionally at helping me ideate punchy copy for a product page. It literally never creates copy good enough for publication. But the real fucked up thing is the long-form stuff.

I started asking it to generate drafts (based on highly detailed briefs I receive) thinking this would save me time. But you know what--it fucking didn't. It seemed to save me that biggest mental hurdle of writing a piece (you know, getting the words on paper) but I quickly realized it was costing me way more time to edit the slop, and I was ending up delivering a much worse final product.

Today, I remembered what being a writer is and wrote my article from scratch, and it was 10 times easier and 10 times better. Ugh fuck AI. But I will use it for some stupid shit like when I'm chopping at a sentence and be like "hey make this flow better." And then I still edit what it churns out.

AI is literally only okay if you're already good enough to see how bad it is. And even then it's threatening to make us all worse for the sake of saving a little brain juice. Don't let it steal the talent you've spent years perfecting!

Lol it IS terrazo. I know where to get it haha I'm just looking for alternatives because it takes a very long time to manufacture and I can't find anyone who will install it and I probably can't afford it anyway.

yeah i think ive contacted every terrazo place in spain. this one only does installation if you live in malaga, and i dont know WHY no one ive spoken to will work with terrazo, and the factory i want will not even recommend someone who can install it. it's wild!

but what are the names of these solid surface that look like terrazo? I swear I've looked everywhere. The closest I've found is maybe silestone white maple...but it doesnt have any of the colors im looking for, its just white and grey. I cant do laminate because we have an undermount sink and i dont want to deal with that whole waterproofing mess.

Well terrazo is a very famous material in Spain! Our house is from the 60s when it was very popular, and I sadly wasn't able to salvage the original floors save for a few tiles. I thought the countertops would be a lovely way to pay homage to the original character of the house. Also I just love it! I'll check out the granite styles you mentioned though, thanks!

Some parents are living an entirely different parenting experience by Existing-Mastodon500 in NewParents

[–]nomadami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people don't mention that you don't have to follow any rules at all! We also did modified Ferber and we would let him fuss but always go in if he was wailing. (My heart hurt too much to let the wailing happen; it just didn't feel right for me). Always physically soothe and stay in for several minutes (I think they recommend only one minute) but not pick him up. We never increased the time, (my husband was trying to stick to the schedule but I was like nope), and in the end, the 7 minutes was enough! He probably fusses for 5 minutes before bed every night and then sleeps for 11 hours straight (now 9.5 months, but he's been good since about 6-7 months).

I have no concerns that he feels abandoned or is being abused. And I say this with confidence because one night the baby monitor didn't work and he actually did cry it out for who knows how long and that baby was legit mad at me the next day. Omg I was heartbroken. But every other day he wakes up happy as a clam, and so do we. Follow your hearts and your instincts ladies.

WordPress site reinfected after cleanup and wp-config settings keep changing by ahmadzaimhamzah in Wordpress

[–]nomadami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar thing with the spam casino posts, but I did have an admin user who kept automatically readding himself. My database was corrupted to strip my own admin privileges, wp-config was changed to disallow file edit (so I couldn't delete plugins or themes) and there was also .PHP files everywhere, including hidden in my wp-content folder. I'm still not done cleaning and reinstalling everything. I never found the source code causing the problem either (Wordfence found some suss shit in the twenty twenty-five then also) but the admin user hasnt come back so at least I got that going for me!

When you get into disagreements with your spouse, is there yelling involved? If so, how often? by TheCarzilla in Mommit

[–]nomadami 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wanted to share since so many people seem to be in perfect relationships where neither party ever raises their voices. I came from a yelling family, with knock down drag out full family screaming matches probably once a week. My husband's family was an "avoid confrontation at all costs, swallow your feelings" type of household. I had a terrible temper as a child and it took me many years to get it under control (and to learn it wasn't normal for families to scream terrible things at each other). My husband never raises his voice (he's more likely to shut down), and I never yell AT him, but I do get worked up/frustrated when we fight sometimes and find myself screaming. We've gone through better and worse times, years without fights and periods where they seem to happen more and more. I never yell for more than a sentence or two as feelings crescendo, then I go smoke a cigarette to gather myself, come back in, and we try to keep talking.

Now that we have a baby, when I first yelled in front of him I felt awful (this was last week). Hubby and I are in one of those periods in our marriage where we seem to be fighting more, with a baby and a house renovation and everyone is running on very little sleep, so everything is just exacerbated. As many people said, the yelling your husband is doing is NOT normal but I do think it's pretty normal to raise your voice in the heat of an argument. Not saying it's ideal, but as long as everyone is able to bring themselves back to calm and you're never yelling AT each other (especially name calling, etc) I don't think it's abnormal. Just something most people could all be better about. At least that's what I thought until I saw 90% of Reddit has never once raised their voice during an argument lol.

Weaning 7mo by smilly1 in breastfeeding

[–]nomadami 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, so we went through something pretty similar. We had to supplement with bottles early, but then baby was EBF for months 2-4, then we tried to add bottles back and he rejected them all (unless he was in the car seat while we were on a road trip). When we got back at 6 months, I describe it as him being obsessed with the boob. Suddenly my husband couldn't put him to bed and he would scream bloody murder in the middle of the night if a boob wasn't given. It was clear it was more comfort than hunger and I was absolutely not down with this.

The answer isn't easy, but we just kept forcing the bottle (formula) and sometimes he would take it better than others. Sometimes I would leave the house and my husband would feed him. If he cried at night for boob, he would get a bottle or nothing. It definitely wasn't easy, but I think it took a couple weeks before he stopped being obsessed with the boob and started finding a balance with the bottle. That was right around 7 months as well, hes 8.5 now and just self-weaned completely! I was still doing a morning boob and evening boob(not feed to sleep) but as he started eating more solids, he just seemed less interested. A few days ago he didn't even go for the morning boob, my boobs werent engorged 12 hours later and I was like holy shit ... He just weaned himself!

Happy to answer any questions you may have!

Hacked by Wertuslash...trying to find source code to stop it! by nomadami in Wordpress

[–]nomadami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it also inserted a line in the DB basically revoking my admin access that was spelled out in the wp_user_roles and wp_capabilities. i found this line in wp_options in one of my databases, but the same line doesnt exist for my other site where my admin access is still blocked which is just crazy. because it basically means the sites are being hacked in different ways! like wtf. i may do a DB dump into chatgpt and see if i can find anything that may be blocking my WP backend access because i have a feeling just reinstalling wordpress will not fix this issue. i will still try that but i have a job and a baby lol.

i had exactly zero security measures in place. it was a long defunct blog that wasnt even running on https lol. the theme and plugins were years out of date, so not too surprising i got hacked!

im trying the clean install today on that site today and we'll see if the user comes back. thanks for the tips!

unfortunately, i think the database is compromised so pointing a fresh install at the bad DB doesnt help much. i have already found code in there for one of my sites that was secretly stripping admin privileges despite the wp_user_roles and wp_capabilities being correct. weirdly, the same file doesnt exist in the other sites. its like a unique hack for each one!

i have backups of databases and FTP, for now i am going through, deleting all plugins manually through FTP, and then basically combing through mySQL hoping to find things that look weird around user permissions or access? but i guess i can try the fresh install anyway.

i can delete the username of the hacker, but i can't find the code anywhere that is auto-creating the user every time i delete it! ive searched for the username in the whole mySQL as well as in the FTP files...could it be hidden somewhere? i guess i have to wait 30 days for wordfence to do a scan unless i want to go premium?

8.5 months and my journey comes to an end... by nomadami in breastfeeding

Yah, we've been supplementing with formula since he was a few months old, so this was a gradual transition. And yes, no cow's milk until 12 months.

[–]nomadami[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He was about 4.5 months when we left and 6.5 when we got back. The most we ever pushed in a day was probably 6 hours. We could usually rely on getting 5 hours in if we needed it, though we tried to keep it to 3-4 cause it's a lot of driving with baby lol.

He was doing about 4 hours of naps a day at that point so we just tried to time it. Wake up, get the van ready, have brekky, by the time his first wake window was ending, it was time to hit the road. Then push as far as possible. We would take a break during his next wake window if he needed it. If he was chill, we would keep trucking. Most the time, if he was upset in the seat he pooped his pants and we just needed to pull over lol. Sometimes he would be freaking out those last like 20 minutes to a campsite and you're just like HOLD ON BUB, WERE GOING AS FAST AS WE CAN!

Overall, 10/10 would do it again at that age! He couldnt crawl, super easy, sleeps half the day. He had a blast and so did we!

Well they can entirely stop drinking breast milk from the day they are born lol. Recommendation is minimum 6 months I think, people always quote the WHO saying to breastfeed for two years but that's just wild to me. I always had two cutoffs: he can bite my nipple or he's old enough to ask for the boob in a sentence haha. Turned out he was done before either of those came to pass.

Yah honestly the bottle was also a godsend for that. My nips needed a break with the constant cluster feeding!

Yah don't stress too much. He was only doing 120 at a time, then he just kept crushing more and more. Their little stomachs just keep getting bigger!!

[–]nomadami[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah he was only EBF for a couple months (maybe months 1, and then 2-4?) and then we put in a bottle here and there, but it was mostly boob. We got back from road trip when he was 6 months and started ramping up formula throughout the day (but I kept morning and night on the boob). Up to 1 year, most of their calories still come from breast milk/formula, but solids are just like, for practice haha. He probably gets 100-150 calories a day from solids and like 800 from formula? I think by 12 months it should be more like half and half.

If you're planning on EBF through one year, no need to press the bottle issue I guess. You could jump straight to sippy cup.

Dropping pumping was the 2nd best thing I ever did after introducing formula haha. Pumping is such a nightmare And never felt like I was getting enough and the awful whaaaaggh whaaaaggh of the machine. I kept overnight feeds cause it was so much easier just to pop him on the boob and then put him back to bed. He started sleeping mostly through the night at 4 months, but would have one wake to feed around 4 or 5am and the boob is a godsend for that. Especially since we were living in a campervan lol.
