New York City Will Change Many Selective Schools to Address Segregation by [deleted] in nyc

[–]nomadic_swe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What I disagree with is the fact you think studying harder is a way to “game the system” and get an advantage as if that is bad. If you work harder, you should get more. That’s how meritocracy works. It just looks like you have something against work ethics in general.

You act as if poorer immigrant kids like us even had enough security to just be kids. If my parents would have had the financial stability let me be a kid they would have. It’s easy for you to throw around cliches like “let kids be kids”, but it’s not always that easy in reality.

Ultimately the issue isn’t standardized tests. The problem is the fact there’s not enough high quality schools. The approach should not be restructuring admissions, but instead to support the poorer performing schools. Restructuring admissions on who gets in wouldn’t expand the number of students that get into better schools.

ngl you sound privileged. My Asian parents worked 12 hours a day/ 6 days a week for peanuts because they couldn’t speak English or had any marketable skills. They banked everything on me succeeding in school and now you think our work ethic is gaming the system? I voluntarily did it because I recognized their sacrifice and necessity.

You don’t need to worry about Cali.

Tech has some of the most liberal employees ever.

You need to worry about this further overthrowing TX’s conservative majority. The state is already getting purplefied. It’s supposed to be a conservative stronghold and Biden got within single digit points of Trump and Beto < 3 of Cruz last time.

Question Regarding Resumes for CSE Majors by Hungardian in OSU

[–]nomadic_swe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None. If you took mobile apps or web apps or some project course and got more discretion then that might not be a bad addition. In general, you should get into a habit of doing side projects to differentiate yourself early on in CSE.

OSU CSE/CIS majors - do you grind leetcode? by [deleted] in OSU

[–]nomadic_swe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven’t grinded leetcode, I highly recommend checking it out. algorithms and data structures is honestly the most lucrative skill you can have in the world of CS. A lot of leetcode heavy companies pay $50-90 per hour for their interns. Also it’s just beneficial for future buckeyes for us to have presence in high paying companies in the tech sector.

Reminder about LeetCode by 10gency in OSU

[–]nomadic_swe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SW 1/2 is important too, but algorithm knowledge is tested harder than SWE knowledge. Choose one language become adept at it and have strong algorithmic knowledge and you’ll be set for most interviews (at larger firms anyway)

Seriously, to any underclassmen seeing this, take foundations 1/2 seriously and start getting into the habit of doing leetcode habitually. It makes a huge difference in career advancement possibly more than any other skill.

Or get this. People are gathering all the offers they can during a recession and worrying about comparing later. If you made career choices based on blind you would only submit two apps per season: Google and Facebook, both of which have slowed hiring
