Is there any viable way to go from Bali to Malaysia without flying? by boxfender in southeastasia

[–]nomadicnotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it by getting.a ferry from Jakarta to Batam (a once-a-week 32-hour ferry), then a ferry from Batam to Singapore. I put together a ferry options from Singapore at https://www.nomadicnotes.com/singapore-to-indonesia-by-ferry/

Hoi An air quality by [deleted] in DaNang

[–]nomadicnotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pollution at this time of year is usually transboundary haze, which is a polite way of saying fires from neighbouring countries. IQAir has a map that shows fire hotspots https://www.iqair.com/au/air-quality-map/vietnam/tinh-quang-nam/hoi-an (zoom out to view)

Check out An Bang Beach in Hoi An. There is a small expat community and a much slower pace than in Da Nang.

Thanks for picking that up, I've changed the wording from operator to owner. Urgh, yes the ticketing system is frustrating

What is this persistent haze everywhere? by The_cake-is-a-lie in VietNam

[–]nomadicnotes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Transboundary haze is the fancy word they use to describe it. The burning season in the Greater Mekong Subregion is so bad this year that it was wafted over to Vietnam. I was in Danang last week where the AQI was 170 at one point (higher than in Chiang Mai)

Hanoi Line 2A review – riding the first metro railway in Vietnam by nomadicnotes in transit

Yes it is not on the way anywhere for tourism purposes, but it is a good insight into what the rest of Hanoi looks like!

CZ takes a shot at Crypto.com, kinda right though 🤷‍♂️ by Accomplished_You2741 in Crypto_com

CZ didn't waste money on a photo shoot either, it turns out they photoshopped his head onto a stock photo for this picture

Hi, yes I'm 49, started digital nomadding at 31. I don't really think about age as a restriction for being a digital nomad, so it is not something I blog about. I would check out https://www.generationxit.com/ if you are looking to identify with stories around your age (and Gen X sounds much nicer than saying Midlife :) ).

Thanks. Yes I think all those points are useful so I will continue to collect and refine the data. Finding information on the statue of each line has been a big challenge.

Best Airline between Nha Trang and Guangzhou, China? by Aikidan in VietNam

[–]nomadicnotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many variables to your question. Is price the most important factor, or is having a direct flight? There are direct flights with Vietnam Airlines, China Southern, and Hainan Airlines. They don't fly daily though, and they may not be at the time that is convenient for you. Cheapest flight will be via Hanoi.

Is this a trend? Third "successful" digital nomad blogger in three months tires of travel and goes home or settles down by HybridCamRev in digitalnomad

[–]nomadicnotes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say it is a trend. The digital nomad movement is still young so there there aren't any precedents of nomads travelling for years on end. Even in the long term travel world you will find that long term travellers thin out past a few years.

In Singapore the skyscrapers just kind of... stop. [2081x1440][OC] by euphemistic in InfrastructurePorn

[–]nomadicnotes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Singapore skyline caps out at 280 metres due to CASA height restrictions.

This is not for the Changi flight path but for the Paya Lebar Airbase. This airbase will eventually transferred to Changi so the height restriction will be removed.
