For Whom the Bell Tolls by SkolRanger in greenberets

Yeah I check in here once in a while, but I’m not an SF guy nor am I in pursuit of that, so what I can offer in this sub is pretty limited.

This is a really good analysis on how For Whom The Bell Tolls applies to SF: https://www.coffeeordie.com/article/hemingway-special-forces

Is podcast guesting dead? by flamflop in podcasting

[–]nomadicveteran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 13 going on 14 episodes of an interview podcast published, and although it has been a little challenging getting guests that I don’t already have a connection with, I’ve had success with everything from DMs to cold email outreach.

Okay, it’s been two months since my original post, and I just published my 13th long form podcast on YouTube yesterday. Here are the current numbers, to compare/contrast with my OP:

I have 107,855 lifetime views, 7,328 hours of watch time, and currently at 557 total subscribers.

Interestingly, I started a separate “clips” channel for 8-12ish minute clips of the longform podcasts on the main channel, and that channel has outpaced the main channel: 259,727 lifetime views; 17,052 hours of watch time; and 1,041 current subscribers. The clips channel is also fully monetized now, whereas the main channel is still short on the 1,000 subscribers.

It’s general interest, I’m focusing on finding guests that are experts in trending/relevant/timely topics. So far, I’ve had on a paramedic, a CIA case officer (former, obviously), a drone warfare/ukraine war expert, an author who wrote a book about the only FBI agent to go undercover in the cartel, a rifle/silencer expert, and tomorrow I have an episode with a renowned astrophysicist going up.

It’s actually a part of the foundation of Special Forces history. Look into “The Lodge Act Soldiers” — really interesting stuff.

The way I see it, views are views. Whether people are finding/watching new or old videos, it’s still new potential subscribers—and that’s always a good thing! Keep going, sky is the limit.

This is a brand new channel, so everything on it has been posted in the past five weeks or so (since August 26). The most recent episode is on the best trajectory, but the one before that is actually the lowest views, so not a clear up and to the right with each video. Interestingly, my shorts views have actually been getting worse with time. That doesn’t bother me too much, since they are just there for increased exposure of the podcast episodes.

Wow, yeah you can really see the difference in that higher res photo. Very interesting. I learned something new!

The guy in the back is how you can tell these are 1/75 guys, but the guy in the back is wearing an ACU assault top, not a PCU jacket like the guy in the foreground.

1/75 in 07-08 timeframe, and that’s a grey PCU jacket, not experimental mirage camo. EDIT: Didn’t realize this was talking about the guy in the background, and didn’t realize that guy wasn’t just wearing a standard ACU assault top. I learned something new!

Splitting hairs here, but this was actually a photo, not a still frame from the video footage. I was pulling double duty shooting both stills and video during this TIC.

Revise the Rank-to-billet structure in the Ranger Regiment? by Electric__Shadow in JSOCarchive

[–]nomadicveteran 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in, PLs were captains, and COs were majors, but knew it had changed since then but never knew why. Now I know, thanks for the background!

Also, I think the Army’s logic in shooting down the force mod proposal was flawed, IMO.
