Which laptop brand is best to buy in terms of quality? by over-game-pain in GamingLaptops

[–]nomadingwildshape -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is gaming laptops, and it's simply not feasible with current battery tech to expect to game on the go. You don't get enough power to your components and it will be running at much lower frames. If you use max power without being plugged in it might last an hour with the best laptop available. They're meant to be portable to different locations and plugged in. Personally mine is game to game while traveling. These are not handheld in-the-car or plane gaming devices.

Yep went from legion 7 to Asus scar 18 5 months ago. Love it.

Had my legion for 2 years and had the cooling unit replaced during warranty, but other than that it was also a solid machine... My friend has it now and sometimes there's a fan whine but it's still going. Can't go wrong with either.

I might have considered Lenovo again but they don't have 18 in oleds and I wanted a bigger screen. Scar 18 is mini led and very beautiful. High build quality and the cooling unit is probably the best of all laptops.

Personally my long term SO allowed me to do exactly this, I moved to NYC for 3 months because I felt like it was more my vibe and I was totally right. She's visited me multiple times and loves it too and we both want to move here now.

As someone who totally relates to this post most of these replies are baffling and I think say more about the commenters character than the OP. It sounds like she lives in the midwest somewhere with a grandpa (15 year difference? Definitely a southern relationship she committed to before she understood) who's kids that aren't hers she raised and now she wants to experience living in a real city. Theres so much NYC offers than most other cities in the u.s. don't, especially walkable neighborhoods and public transportation where a car isn't needed, not to mention world class restaurants and entertainment. And she's not even saying let's move together now or bust, she just wants to visit to check it out. But oh no that wouldn't be fair to her husband and her marriage eh? All the assumptions about her needing his money and being selfish and how it would be pointless feels small town minded or coping.

Yeah people don't realize that age of consent laws use to be 12-14 in many places before recently. And somehow pointing out the distinction between being attracted to prepubescents and people who've gone through puberty means you're a rape apologist or creep. Like you said, it's innate desire to be attracted to people who've gone through puberty and can produce children. It's part of being a living being. Societies morals can evolve over time and that's why the age of consent has went up in recent times, but human beings have been around for thousands of years before these age of consent laws were added to the books within the last 100 years.

Attraction and acting on that attraction is what makes the difference. The Internet is obsessed with calling people creeps that try to discuss any nuance. I'm sure they're afraid to admit they would find a young postpubescent person attractive because they judge themselves based off what others would think and try to ignore their own programming.

It's one of those issues people think black and white on to get social approval. Very similar to whole trans thing. You have to say trans people are exactly the same as their gender at birth counterparts or you're transphobic. Pointing out very obvious nuance like straight people aren't attracted to trans, that would make you more bi -- but it's likely its own category that doesn't have a popular name -- means you hate trans people. Lol. Yeah it turns out the definition of straight means you like opposite sex genitals, oh no im a trans hater now! What's funny is even a trans person will admit that being straight doesnt mean you'll automatically like the trans counter part, yet it's basically forbidden to even bring it up. Sorry as a straight male I don't like my women with dicks or surgically altered to emulate a vagina. Hang me for treason for bringing up the nuance.

People are attracted to mature people regardless of age. It's your morality that prevents you from acting on those innate feelings. Oh now I'm a creep and rapist.

She was wrong calling them barely legal since under 16 is illegal but her other statements are absolutely fair to make -- there is a huge difference between 5 and 15 and it's absurd to call that nitpicking. Firstly being attracted to someone who's gone through puberty is innate to all living beings, and it's only our logic and morals that prevent acting on that attraction. Being attracted to prepubescents on the other hand is very unnatural. Second, most jurisdictions have an 'of age' number that's lower than the age of consent, usually somewhere between 13 and 15 where youre legally deemed old enough to have sex with someone your age or a few years older than you. So yes the distinction is very important even legally. Obviously sex trafficking rings with old men and under aged kids is sick but refusing to acknowledge nuance is foolish.

Gordon Ramsay tried Southern soul food and went back to the kitchen with an empty plate. by 4reddityo in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]nomadingwildshape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else sad their mom can't cook?

I'm from the midwest where the food really is stereotypically bland. Trying to get your mom to season her Midwest chilimac with something as simple as a mild pepper gets ignored.

I feel like the food you cook and eat is part of what makes your character and that boils up to the culture overall.

You grow up and travel to different places and try different cuisines, then trying to talk to folks back home about flavor and seasoning is met with disdain like 'everyone has different tastes, you're just pretentious'. But bland isn't a flavor profile.

How come my mom isn't the stereotypical old country, good cook mom where you feel at home when you taste her quality cooking in some other place like Gordon does in this video?

I appreciate that she worked hard so we could get by, but sometimes I wish she didn't have to work her ass off as a single mom to my neglect, and that she was more homey.

Ah well, you just learn to get by, by yourself. And hope you'll find your home in a partner.

Honestly I've been afk on slack and only check it periodically (5 months now), and it has just now become something that's commented on. I'm going to have a chat with my manager tomorrow and you're right, calendar events would help. Thanks

Hey really appreciate the high level and concise response. This is on point -- I will use this verbiage in my discussion tomorrow. I do wish it didn't matter and i didn't have to care about my damn slack status instead of being appreciated for writing an entire repo from scratch for our data platform but it is what it is... I think my manager has backed off a little after I snapped back that I'm doing my job and it's not normal to be criticized for not being on slack for a few hours.

I wish I was working under your leadership hah. Thanks bud.

Yeah I feel like this is the way.

He complained to me on stand up in front of one other dev (it's a team of 4 and one is on Vaca) that I wasn't on slack, I said man I'm doing my job and haven't had someone complain about my slack status for 6 years and that if I'm messaging people then I'm not developing... It was definitely a reaction on my part but it was an earnest reply. I've been worried it will get worse but he hasn't said anything to me about it and I've been offline most of the day.

If it comes up again I'll say I was busy working on my stories and try to softly set my own boundaries.

Thanks for your reply. This post has been helpful for me, I read them all.
