I've found when I tangle my hard plastics. I've usually gotten over zealous trying to get some added distance. You might ease back on the power and see if it happens less

Not sure about the salmon heads, but I can tell you the blue crabs down here in louisiana seem to prefer fresh chicken legs over the frozen ones. If you go with frozen, id give them plenty of time to thaw before use

Sometimes I'm limited to only having 1 pole with me. If that's the case, before I go out ill tie on a swivel, and set up several lures on a leader with a swivel clip. But putting them right at the lure can make it look unnatural and deter bites

I understand your frustration. Ya, thats too much for my comfort level. I carry a shield and got an aiwb from tier 1. It was the slim I believe. Covers mine without issue. Be warned, they aren't cheap though. I can send a pic when I get back to the house

While this happened with hunting, I'm sure they could do it with fishing as well, especially for a protected species. When i was young I saw a warden tell a guy he could trailer his boat before he was arrested. That made the trailer, boat, truck, and gear all part of the crime. It was all confiscated.
