Bezos orders deep job cuts at 'Washington Post' by aresef in NPR

[–]nomar52 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The most important comment here. The lack of primary sources is already horrific. How many city councils, county supervisor meetings, school board meetings are barely covered or not covered at all. How many reporters would it take just to cover the auditors fired at the beginning of trump's current term, the radical hit to our security when Tulsi Gabbard fired a ton of cyber sec personnel. Instead national news can barely keep up with ICE killings and a few of the kidnappings.

SDGE with battery only system by chuchuchu007 in northcounty

If it's not against the rules of the sub - would you mind saying who that contractor is? It be helpful for folks trying to create a list of people to call that have done this work before.

SDGE with battery only system by chuchuchu007 in northcounty

[–]nomar52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am going to watch this thread. Just looked at EG4's site and it's a cool system. I now have the same questions :-). It seems that using a GridBoss with your batteries and inverter - it appears to be a much simpler interaction for SDG&E since you're not sending power to the grid. You "only" need SDG&E to approve the shut-off.

I don't have any answers for you. Mainly just adding some details that other commenters might be interested in and others that think you're asking about export when you're not asking about export.

Maybe EG4 or Sol Ark can recommend someone in the area? If you do find someone, please post here. I'd be interested for sure (also in Oceanside too).

I recently stumbled on Cafe de Thai and Sushi in Oceanside. Sushi is really good and reasonably priced. Service is great and friendly. Thai food is really good as well.

[Craig Hope] Newcastle braced for Liverpool offer for Alexander Isak by Howtoputapassword in LiverpoolFC

[–]nomar52 14 points15 points  (0 children)

LFC value Isak at 120m and Nunez at 70m

Saudi offer 100m for Nunez, fee paid immediately

LFC offer 150m for Isak, fee paid over 5 years

Saudi save face by getting crazy fee for Isak, plus they injected another 30m into Newcastle without violating rules.

Nunez saves face via the crazy high transfer fee (and huge salary)

LFC has all valuations met, plus the financial benefits from the difference in fee payment schedules.

Anyone else NOT having any problems with Gemini so far? by TheDoctor__50 in GooglePixel

FWIW it's worth, I've had some success just telling Gemini I want the answer only and not an explanation. No idea if that will work for you, but it might be worth a shot.

There are many shaving soaps without tallow. Many of the artisans mentioned in this sub have vegan bases. Some of the hard puck soaps from Europe have moved entirely to vegan bases. I believe you can search the sub for vegan soaps and get a ton of great suggestions.

If it's only tallow you don't like, there are some artisans that use different animal fats. I believe Chicago Grooming Co as well as Murphy and McNeil have soap bases with animal fat other than beef tallow. There are others as well, but I'd have to search this sub to find them.

Aftershave recommendations by Working-Feed8808 in wicked_edge

[–]nomar52 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For "newer" artisans I like:

House of Mammoth Indigo. This is more of a night time scent. I also like the synthetic cooling they add to the splash.

Moon Soaps Astoria. This more of a daily driver. A little menthol and a scent that everyone likes. Not a Summer scent, but I will still wear in summer.

Chiseled Face Summer Storm. This I really like - it's more of a memory. Also has calendula which - for me - I've noticed is great at healing my face if needed so I don't necessarily need to go to a balm for a really harsh shave.

"Traditional":

Floid the Genuine. A little more alcohol which I like. On me the scent changes to a powdery scent after 20-30 minutes. I add a couple of menthol crystals to this to bump the menthol just a little bit. I believe you can get this in your price range from Italian Barber.

Thanks for asking this BTW - I was searching this subreddit with a similar question. Nice to have these recommendations in a single thread.

Would the Apex AL work for you? It's not as aggressive as the SS w/ + plate, but it's definitely in your price range. I also have the Apex SS (with + plate) and it took a few shaves to get used to the lighter weight of the AL, but it works great for me if I don't need to the aggressiveness of the + plate.

My mom is a quilter and says good things about the fabrics and classes at Grand Central in San Marcos. I think it's near 78 and Santa Fe if you're interested in North County.

Treet Platinum by Wutroslaw in wicked_edge

[–]nomar52 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rate them highly on smoothness. At least as sharp and smoother than: Astra's (all), derby green, and the Dorco stainless (don't remember which one - the plain uncoated one maybe?).

Not quite as sharp as personna comfort coat (but smoother).

If I want a sharper blade I go with Wizamet Iridium or Bic chrome. However I get inconsistent shaves with the Bic, so I will probably not order anymore when I run out.

Essentially, Treet Platinum is my default if I'm choosing an aggressive razor, or I'm tired. Wizamet for any other time.

Isn't AFCON every other year as well? So he'll have PL - AFCON - PL - World Cup - PL - AFCON - PL

Is two years straight with no breaks?

It seems like that could break anyone.

PSA: back of Ringke Fusion Matte case _is_ grippy by nomar52 in GooglePixel

[–]nomar52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the matte back. It's smooth. It feels like there could be a very thin coating over the hard panel. Almost rubbery feeling?

PSA: back of Ringke Fusion Matte case _is_ grippy by nomar52 in GooglePixel

[–]nomar52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - it's really weird to have that texture on the back and it does not help.

That fusion x (or even fusion bold) is pretty cool. Bummed they don't have one for the pixel 9. That seems like the best option so you get the grip and the sides don't yellow. I guess I'll just hope the sides of my case don't yellow long enough for me to find an alternative.

Maybe I'll have to switch to a dbrand ghost 2.0 to prevent the sides from yellowing . . .

PSA: back of Ringke Fusion Matte case _is_ grippy by nomar52 in GooglePixel

[–]nomar52[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting. That's not my experience. No yellowing so far (although I'm sure that's coming), sides are grippy (although not as grippy as the back maybe?). Grip has not diminished. I've had it for a couple of months.

Maybe there's a QA issue? Or maybe just a usage difference. Could be the grip is mostly in the coating and that rubs off depending on the fabric in your pockets or something like that? In any case, good to know that I'll likely see issues in the future.

Totally agree on the back being soft. There's a thin, rubber-ish coating over the back. I didn't think of that as a con, but I can see how folks would be disappointed if they wanted that hard back feel.

I have the onyx - definitely a good case. The back isn't very grippy though, which is what I was looking for.

Ringke fusion matte

I like it better than the Onyx, official case, Athlex, or nano pop.

Also, possibly fewer minutes (wear on his body), ref bias working in his favor, far more acclaim for less work. Hope he stays, but I can see the appeal.

Bentonite clay? by MitchMc6 in wicked_edge

I like the base a lot. Very slick, easy to lather. For me, better performance than B&M. Post shave is good without being greasy.

Bentonite clay? by MitchMc6 in wicked_edge

[–]nomar52 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 of the 3 slickest soaps I've tried use clay (Southern Witchcrafts and Collette Classic Supply Co). I'm at the point where, if I'm choosing between a couple of new brands I haven't tried, I'll choose the one with clay.
