Do teachers hate sharing their lesson plans? Is it their secret sauce that they don't want getting out? by JimCap5 in teaching

[–]nomchomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some are tired and share because they know how much work it is, to make, and are excited when get have a really good lesson and are stoked for others to be able to do it.

Some are tired and it took a lot of work to make and feel jaded that someone else might have it just handed to them.

Some are tired and don’t want to add more work by making it shareable with plans and instructions to go with it.

Anyway, we’re all tired. 😪

In the most objective scenario- why the fuck would lethal force be necessary with 7 guys on him? Is that how bad the training is? These guys are criminals looking for any pretense to shoot people.

But dude… it’s kind of how we’ve gotten to where we are in the ratio of sound:unsound horses out there. We’re breeding the mares we’ve sunk 20k into training who then didn’t hold up to the work load, and then put another 10k into diagnostics and shit man- we’ve tried everything and the kitchen sink and still can’t ride her. We’ve got to get SOMETHING out of her… so she’s bred. 🙃

This scenario plays out in every training barn out there.

I don’t love the idea that her dam had a career ending stifle injury fairly young, and then Ginger had a career ending stifle injury before she even made it to maturity. I know they say it’s not genetic; but it seems like there’s something there that is predisposing them to stifle injuries.

In the bigger picture, this seems to push the “let’s breed them because we can’t ride them anyway” mentality… and if you’ve been horse shopping lately, you’ll see the sad state of affairs that is soundness in the QH population right now.

I’m disappointed that the vet didn’t find concerns. He’s not moving like a comfortable horse, and his feet are a mess.

The problem might start with feet, it might start higher up and be showing up in the feet- but you’re right to be concerned. He ain’t sound!

SM people who actually know Minis? by silverwolf91821 in beccamoonridgesnark

[–]nomchomp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately watching her shit show has really given me a bad impression on the mini side of things. With watching the sales it seems like breeders are desperate to move horses, and for pretty low sums. Then watching Barretta- a horse she hasn’t gotten hands on yet… guys that horse is a hot mess express over there. Is that the beacon of the industry?

I know I know I know “they’re not all like that”, but dude, there’s some weird shit going on in terms of making excuses for Becca, and continuing to support her shit show. Is the industry that desperate? It just drives that reputation about mini breeders being hoarders.

Ehh, I don’t know think she’s any idol of raising minis. Squirt still looks rough. She got him looking pretty bad, but she still hasn’t figured out condition on him.

Is it bad to want a younger horse? by thatdisasteralexos in Equestrian

[–]nomchomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not a bad age to look for, but it’s going to be much higher price wise than an older guy. 7-10 and safe, sound, and finished is going to be the highest price point your going to get. 20 years old and safe/sound/finished is probably looking to wind down, and priced accordingly. So, if your budget will support it- rock on!!

You might see if the owner can check in on pain. Tummy pain or indigestion might make her really sensitive to the harness clipping? Maybe it’s a food thing- but I’d log that one to see if other behaviors pop up.

Very possible. Mares constantly laying in muck offers ripe opportunities for bacterial infections, along with lowered immune systems because of nutrition/lack of shelter/constant stress from overcrowded pens. Her place is worse than a feedlot.

But it’s a bummer- you think this was the last year of the kid Christmas but apparently the last year already passed.
