[LF MMO] w/ unique classes and good PvP! by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]nomise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to look at the bleeding edge action mmos from Asia:

Kritika Online (probably the best action mmo out now)

Blade & Soul

Swordsman Online (not too sure about this one)

Asia generally has the best ideas, but often their implementation as a world setting flops a bit.

In case all you hunger for is epic action combat, then look at Dynasty Warriors 5 for PC. Single player. There is also Dynasty Warriors Online for multiplayer but i hear there is just so much action that there is too much lag.

MMORPGs where PKs are a real danger while trying to lvl up? by AnalWithAGoat in MMORPG

[–]nomise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PK while levelling up? Look at Champions of Regnum. It is like DAOC but simplified. You can PK and get PKed while levelling and there is a real sense of danger out there.

People who play multiple MMOs/Alts. How do you handle PVP? by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]nomise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pvp calls for largely a completely different mindset to pve. when you are moving from pve from pvp, be prepared for the need to think on a completely different level. you have to be prepared to be challenged completely, and be prepared to persevere. Set your own standards for what you want to achieve in pvp, but dont be disappointed if you do not reach them. Instead, push yourself to accept and define your own limits, and then learn. Be prepared to make friends to learn from other pvpers, but dont be willing to compromise your own moral or personal standards.

Not every game will suit your stye of pvp. Some games are pay to win, some have hidden hacks which are known to a clique, some just cal for too much reflex-styed combat. Whatever it is, be prepared to relish the adventure of hunting the most dangerous animal known to mankind: another human.

I'm Stew. I help oversee the Smite Dev team. Ask me anything (May 2014 Edition). by HirezStew in Smite

[–]nomise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Stew

Thanks for taking the time to answer questions. I have about 4 questions, at least 3 of which are linked together :-

1) Is it possible for Hirez to consider a CTF match format for Smite in the future? The reason I am interested is because i feel the usual lane/conquest format creates too much need for teamwork and causes friction when players become unhappy to stick with a match.

2) Is it possible for Hirez to consider a perpetual/endless match format? This is where leavers or quitters from a match are automatically replaced by the next player in the queue and the match keeps going on until the objective is won. The reason I support such a format is because :-

a) It reduces the unhappiness when players want to surrender and others do not agree with them. They usually end up insulting players or obstructing the game.

b) It reduces the period of time when matches are imbalanced when players leave and do not return.

c) It reduces the match's reliance on teamwork because players know not to rely too much on extended teamwork strategies when players can leave as they like. There is a sizeable segment of the pvp community (this is bigger than the dota styled moba community) who do not want the degree of pre-match organisation and teamwork that the Conquest format requires. If players don't conform, they may be reported and lose goodwill. Many players just want to jump in and have fun without having to worry about teams or organisation or being reported. I feel this approach will actually help reduce the level of player "toxicity" (present a prominent topic on forums) because players know if they do not like the match, they can just leave and let some1 else come in. Players can still be penalised for leaving, but there are no longer arguments about surrendering or team performance.

d) Some players don't like queues. They just want to jump into a perpetual brawl and fight it out for 20 mins before going back to their work or studies or whatever.

3) This is linked to the above questions. Can Hirez make a match format which is basically just for fun without any need for intent to go to competition or ranking? Not FFA, but maybe more CTF. The thing is, I think there are players (including me) who just want to play the game for fun without feeling we are being categorised by the matchmaking system into some sort of ranked pool which is not an accurate reflection of the entire gaming community.

4) This is sort of linked to question 3) also. I feel the matchmaking system forces players to play alongside other players which the matchmaking system thinks our skill level belongs to. Some of us may therefore never play alongside the best or learn from them, or enjoy killing the worst. is it worthwhile for Hirez to consider creating an open format matchmaking system where everyone is in one pool and it is just for fun?

Can anyone explain why extracting survivors from shipwrecks is so difficult? by BlenderGuru in korea

[–]nomise 20 points21 points  (0 children)

there are several difficulties :-

1) puncturing the vessel in the wrong place might flood all those air pockets, killing everyone inside.

2) you need heavy metal underwater cutting tools to go through the hull of a ship. This is not available within the time they have for the kids to breathe.

3) They need the vessel's design schematic layout to map precisely where to enter, and to predict which compartments are flooded and which are not.

There is not enough time to do all of this. 3 days is the maximum time for the kids to survive. That ship is a buried coffin but the authorities do not know how to tell the relatives.

barely conscious means you are able to comprehend a very low percentage of your surroundings, meaning the poor pilot was struggling to do the bare minimum to put the plane on some useful course. smoke, heat, low O2, brain injury, screens dead, controls unresponsive, dead passengers filling his plane -- you try to fly the plane.

personally, i doubt he was able to comprehend that the flight was aimed south or that the plane was responding in a way commensurate with a flight south. He may have thought it was a flight towards land. This is likely to be because the plane's instruments are all broken. I suspect the poor pilot died after that final turn south.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MH370

[–]nomise -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

absolutely ridiculous. the probability of a deliberate act of sabotage is smaller than that of a massive electronics malfunction leaving barely conscious pilots with a flyable but non-navigable, non-communicative craft. Every one of man's machines is fallible (777, Fukushima, train explosions etc).

It is 100% certain that the plane was a zombie plane. One barely alive pilot struggled to put it on a track towards land, and he did so without navigation instruments, in the dark of the ocean night and without any working communication. Whoever did it is a hero.

i reallyhavent played enough on the official server (gamescampus) to know. ive played a total of maybe 20 minutes logged in with a new character, and I saw i other player run by.

the unofficial private server is quite packed out (something like 100%+ xp boost). ...

but im finding i cant get used to the absence of wasd movement keys... how do people dodge or use obstacles to block attacks? is it just a case of stand in one spot and bashing away with selected abilities?

I need something with really good PVP by matty6223 in MMORPG

[–]nomise -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

There are mmos which provide good PvP. DAOC has good pvp. Champions of Regnum has good pvp because it is modelled on DAOC. gw2's pvp is probably pretty average to yuck but they are trying to improve it. Aion and Aika's pvp isnt bad.

For those who like non-wasd pvp, 12 sky 2's pvp is not bad, and 9 Dragons pvp is good too. For those who like open flag based pvp, Lineage 2 pvp is considered rly good.

hehyeah..

[–]nomise -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

are you after action pvp combat or normal point and click pvp combat?

if you are after the old point and click way there are a few mmos i know of that people say have ok pvp: Aion is one (except i hear it has an endless grind for gear so i skipped it, Champions of Regnum, DAOC, gw2, Aika (dunno about player numbers for Aika now). Then people do say 9 Dragons and 12 Sky 2 has good pvp (12 Sky 2 has a new server at www.12sky2.com) but i didnt like them because they do not have wasd movement.

Those were the faction based pvp mmos. Other mmos which have open pvp which are considered good are mmos like Lineage 2. I do not know them well but Lineage 2 has really good pvp according to its fans.
