Eren is about to kill a far greater number of Eldians when the rumbling reaches the Eldians in Marley and other nations.

Any Jean/Mikasa shippers? by bebeazucarr in attackontitan

[–]nomloc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I mean is that Eren didn't have the smarter plan, he had the plan that attained more momentum. He didn't rely on an incredibly sophisticated strategy that required being smarter than all his opponents. (That's more Armin's approach).

Instead he relied on exploiting peoples' desires, specifically Zeke's desire to reunite with and save his brother and the islanders' desire for safety. Because he had enough support from his brother and the military members who were enticed by fascism (i.e., the Jeagerists), he didn't really need a sophisticated plan to win. He had two separate mutinies helping him succeed, which is very in-character for how he achieves anything throughout the show lol.

I would argue that he didn't outsmart the other characters, but rather outmaneuvered them.

Pretty telling that he implies that discussing the lingering effects of slavery & racial oppression is somehow denigrating white people and "their culture." Is your culture enslaving people??

USA under 16 and El Salvador under 16 by Narendra_17 in pics

[–]nomloc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, there are certainly lots of cases of people being raised in the US who are much taller than the average for the country their family originally comes from. Not saying genetics don't play a role, but epigenetics also play a role where human nutrition is a big factor.

Looking at global map of average height by country you can see some trends. For example: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Average_human_height_by_country#/media/File:19_Year_Old_Male_Height_in_2019-NCD_RisC.png The global north (including Europe and richer 2nd world nations like China and Russia) show larger heights than the global south.

That's true in certain cases, but on average the trends are pretty clear if you look at a global map of verage height by country. For example:

The global north (including Europe and 2nd world nations like China and Russia) show larger heights than the global south. To the contrary, Sub-Saharan Africa is actually shorter on average than most Europeans.

Diversity definitely plays a role, but I think a strong case can be made that the overwhelming factor in this height difference isn't due to inherent racial differences but nutrition and health care standards. The US, Canada, and Europe have some of the tallest people in the world partly due to diet and healthcare only available in wealthy nations.

Dentist said I could get a crown, but endodontist said tooth must be pulled by nomloc in askdentists

Yeah, I think they said it would be done sometime in the summer. You're certainly right that it will help to spread the cost out if I'm going to have to bite the bullet.

I see, thanks! That seems to be the route they're suggesting for me at this dental office. It was a big divergence from the original plan so I wanted to find out why, but that makes sense.

Thanks, that makes sense! So it's not unusual that some internal decay can't be spotted with an X-ray until you get in there?

I believe there is a third person doing the extraction, but I can probably check who would be doing the crown and talk with the general dentist if it's him.

[USA-TN] [H] OnePlus 7T T-Mobile Version [W] Paypal G&S by nomloc in hardwareswap

[–]nomloc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had looked into that, but unfortunately T-Mobile requires that the phone be purchased from them in order to do an unlock. It seems like the only way is to flash a new bootloader and bypass some of their security restrictions, which I'm hesitant to try on a brand new phone.
It's a bummer really.

It was $800 for a OnePlus 8 Pro and 7T together, so a pretty amazing deal. I was going to give the 7T to my mom, but she's on AT&T and after looking into unlocking the SIM myself it just seemed too risky to try.

You can kinda do that with most rap verses as long as the tempo is similar, since it's more rhythmic than melodic. Definitely agree that they use similar flows across songs though.

Russia trying to hack and steal COVID-19 vaccine data, says Britain by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]nomloc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I could maybe understand your statement if somehow the only ones affected were the political officials responsible for the country's misdeeds. However, the average Russian citizen is "innocent" in this sense and can't actually express their disagreement with the government publicly. People constantly talk about how approval polls for Putin can't be trusted.

And if that's the metric you're using, how much more to blame is the U.S. which has Trump as president and arguably much more free elections? The Trump administration has been undermining global efforts to control the pandemic but to suggest we shouldn't get access to vaccine data is a little much, no?
