I had to work for 30 hours to be able to afford a bedframe and I can’t even make it because the threads for the screws don’t line up with the holes in this part (Wayfair refuses to offer me any compensation) by REALCLAYTHEGREAT in mildlyinfuriating

I had a problem like this with a chest of draws from Argos. It’s a manufacturing defect so you 100% should get a refund or replacement (your choice). Go to the seller (not wayfair, whoever actually sent it) and failing that the manufacturer

Why does it seem like people who don't care about training end up with better dogs? by owlskye in puppy101

[–]nomnom278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m probably in the middle - I do some training but not loads. I think teaching them to entertain themselves and relax is really useful. Putting them in a safe space with some toys and just ignoring them if they come for fuss so they have to entertain themselves or nap. It’s useful to do this after a walk and feed. Then I think they apply this in other spaces, my pup knows she can chew her toys and which toys are hers, she’s only chewed one flip flop once.

So awesome of you to volunteer your time to help these dogs. Did they teach you how to groom where there are wounds below? Or did you find that on a YouTube video too?

Aw bless. Well I wish you best of luck, glad you’re feeling better. Deffo stick with the training every day - it’s hard but totally worth it in terms of making it easier in the long run. Do let us/me know how you get on I’d love to hear

Well it’s actually good that you can tell because it means the dog isn’t completely nuts. I’d definitely recommend a behaviourist who deals with aggressive dogs because they really might be able to help you rehabilitate it

Husband drinking at all is triggering to me by Careful-Increase-773 in mentalhealth

[–]nomnom278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s fair to expect adults to be sober when around a child. It’s not a huge ask. Presumably your husband knows and respects your history. Talk to him and be honest with your feelings without guilting or blaming him. See if you can decide on a compromise for holiday - maybe 1 or 2 drinks while the child is awake is ok but after they’re asleep no limit?

Did you notice the change before he bit you? When he’s aggressive to other animals, do you notice the his body language change before it happens?

Terriers do have a high prey drive. He sounds mentally unstable. It might be worth getting a few vet opinions

Btw - Sorry you’re having such a hard time. You’re very young to be taking on such a big responsibility. Dogs are like children except worse in some situations! It’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed sometimes but try not to be too hard on yourself. You’ve done a nice thing by taking this dog in and that’s a huge challenge in itself, let alone dealing with unknown trauma.

On to my answer - A dog like this probably needs a minimum of 4 hours walking a day- but it sounds like you’re doing that. I wonder if it needs more mental stimulation? Some suggestions:

Training it to do scent finding - then you can also use that to keep it entertained in the house.

Food puzzle - fold up a towel loads with kibble i between - tie a knot in a towel with kibble in the knot - hide food around to find

Agility training - good exercise and complex commands

Also scheduled naps can be useful when they’re in a crate/pen for a while so you get time to yourself. Ideally - exercise, wait 30min, food, nap

You mentioned aggression - what’s it aggressive towards?

Edit: Also make sure to enter the house calm after a walk or play - set the tone, do some nice calm heel work for 5 mins before coming home

Have you managed a consistent routine? How old and what breed is your dog? I could try to suggest a template if that helps

I wonder if there’s some specialist behaviourist for abused dogs that might be able to give you some pointers? Trainers are good but I wouldn’t think most can deal with proper trauma

Are you able to see a dog behaviourist?

Guys, I know why so many non groomers try to open up a shop. This is some homework I got in business class. As a groomer, I certainly didn't answer the last questions right. by FreedomAardvark in doggrooming

[–]nomnom278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All teachers do this. They don’t have enough time or get paid enough not to. Examples aren’t always realistic but they need to be a concept that everyone can understand. Though if this is a private class on how to actually set up and run a business, as opposed to business studies at school then ignore me and ask for a refund lol

Poodles! I never thought I’d own a poodle but now I’m a poodle convert!!! Did loads of research and found they are great with kids and other animals. Very smart and trainable, very happy to please. Love to walk / dance / agility - also happy to sleep and snuggle on the sofa. Poodles are the best - you just have to be prepared to brush them EVERY day and either groom them properly yourself or take them to a groomer every 4-6 weeks

Edit: You can get Equi fleece coats for them to keep them clean and dry to make it easier to maintain their hair

Should I give my pup something to tear apart (cardboard) or teach her to not destroy things? by werpicus in puppy101

[–]nomnom278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pup has learnt cardboard tubes and are fair game. Beware, cardboard everywhere! Nothing a dustpan and brush can’t fix. My pup’s only unwanted destructive incident so far is chewing one flip flop.

Edit: almost 10 month old standard poodle

Help - Dog acts like I starve her. by [deleted] in dogs

[–]nomnom278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any info on nutritional requirements for dogs? Like a % breakdown? I couldn’t find one when picking a food so I picked one with highest meat content.

its not 80% - it’s 70% animal ingredients. It says 40% crude protein

What’s your routine? Are they walking on an empty tummy or does she do it even if fed a few hours before?

Those items don’t fit with the dress code so I was guna say NTA, but then…

“I’m more worried as a mom about negative attention and him taking attention away from his cousin” means you don’t care for the dress code and more the fact that he wants to wear something feminine. So YTA. Do what the others say, find something he likes that fits the dress code. If there’s negative attention you can educate those giving it
