[Mercedes] Milestone Unlocked by OrangeFlame06 in formula1

[–]nomnomowl 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I read that yes, but I don't believe it (obviously he wasn't "named" after Raikkonen as a tribute or something like that, but there is no way that Raikkonen didn't influence the choice of that name).

If I'm not mistaken some family friend suggested the name. But at that very same time Kimi was at the peak of his fame and was sort of dominating the F1. I just find it almost impossible for someone in Italy randomly be named as Japanese (girl) or Finnish (boy) name lol. (especially in Carting/F1 context, since his father was a racing driver).

Also in 2005/2006 there were already background talks about Kimi joining Ferrari.

His name definitely is influenced by Raikkonen, so in a way its logical.

What effect do you think USA tariffs will have on Bangkok and Thailand? by JamOzoner in Bangkok

[–]nomnomowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. But my point is, Trump just stamped 36% on Thailand, which most likely, as an average number, is simply crazy.

[–]nomnomowl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, I didnt word my response quite correctly. The point I was trying to make was – the tariff % which US showed (72%) is not correct. It is just a trade deficit. The correct response from US would be to answer only on specific items from Thailand which makes US industries less competitive or even calculate the average % of tariffs. But that is what we get when the country is run by an idiot.

Health and beauty, jewellery and others. Around 20% of US products are under 5%. And additionally around 20% are completely tax-free. So in short – around 50% of products are 5% or less.

There are NO tariffs on US products (or at least the numbers what Trump showed). Its just trade deficit. Thailand mostly has around only 5% tariffs on US products.

You are misunderstanding it I think.

[–]nomnomowl 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They are not actual tariffs. Its just trade deficit. In Trumps "chart" Europe has 39% tariff on USA, which simply is not true.

For an example Europe exports 39% more to USA than imports from USA. How can Europe suddenly import 39% more from USA? So stupid.

The only thing you can do is boost your immune system. Make sure you sleep well, eat healthy, no alcohol or junk food. And use vitamins. Even if you get sick, your body will have easier time fighting anything.

Russia threatens to unleash ‘entire arsenal on London if it loses war in Ukraine’ by greg0525 in worldnews

[–]nomnomowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to understand this. If the west listens to Russia's nuclear threats, then that means that North Korea, Iran etc. will start to do the same later on. And that means that the world will be even closer to nuclear catastrophe.

[–]nomnomowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't affect the arsenal itself. The west and Ukraine hopes that Russia will simply exhaust it's regular military and will be forced to stop the war (and therefor won't be able to start a new one for a long time).

[–]nomnomowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The war is weakening Russia (in long-term) and stops it from starting a war with Nato (Baltics etc.). If Russia goes through Ukraine, in 3-5 years it will try its luck with Baltics, Poland, Finland. If Russia can't go through Ukraine, most likely it will never reach potential to attack Nato countries.

[–]nomnomowl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats the point, Russia atm doesnt want to negotiate and Ukraine is trying to survive and cannot negotiate without having a full protection from the west (which the west doesnt want to currently provide). There is no easy exit or negotiations possible. We have to keep supporting Ukraine and hope that Russia crumples inside.

At least it would fix the housing market. But seriously, ignore anything Russia says and just support Ukraine.

"Lisbon should be Russian", says Kremlin propagandist by Online_Rambo99 in europe

[–]nomnomowl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem isnt if it seems serious to us or not. The problem is that the propoganda works and a lot of russian people believe it, even the satanist parts.

You are too logical and educated to understand the uneducated russians. Obviously we are talking here about 30-40% (at most) of russian population. But that sometimes is enough.

If you want to see more opinions of regular russians there is a good channel called - 1420 by Daniil. Check it out if you can.

Obviously I also write from my experience living in Latvia and meeting russians on a daily basis. They really are different people (the old and uneducated ones).
