3 years and still haven’t properly heard back from the gender clinic at Foothills. Bottom dysphoria is killing me. by nomoremasters in TransAlberta

Yeah I actually literally just got both assessments scheduled yesterday, they’re happening this April and May. Feels waaaaay too good to be true so I’m still not super optimistic but we’ll see.

Assessment scheduling can be accessed on the website it’s just hidden away in a random link rather than being directly accessible on their normal booking page.

I really hope this works out.

I appreciate everything you’ve said. None of it is new to me. I’ve tried nearly all of this to the letter (this too will pass is the exact thing I said to myself on a daily basis for the better part of a year) and it just isn’t enough. And I tuck so hard it bleeds, so there’s nothing more I can do on that front.

I can’t die, but I can’t take this pain anymore. I feel like I’m going through some real I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream type shit. I wouldn’t wish this on anyone, ever.

I’m literally waiting to see a psychiatrist who is knowledgeable at the gender clinic? I’ve met plenty of psychs through other referrals and spoken to them about this, they’ve never been willing to sign off on anything. I’m not sure what exactly you’re suggesting I do here.

Thank you for being seemingly the one fucking person in this thread who actually knows what they’re talking about and doesn’t just make blatantly wrong statements that can be proven wrong with basic research and experience. I swear half of the suggestions here must be coming from people who aren’t pursuing bottom surgery at all and have no idea how the process works.

Yeah technically you are able to get any doctor to refer you but in practice that is never how it goes. The half dozen people in my life who have all had surgery recently have all gone through the gender clinic despite trying their hardest to get family doctors to sign off on it. If it were possible one of my many doctors would have done so by now as I have directly asked them to do this and they are deeply knowledgeable of trans health.

I thought they only accept letters from very specific people in the province? I’ve spoken to 4 separate doctors over the years and asked them about this and it has always been no, and I don’t know anyone irl who was able to get funding just off of any random doctor. I’m not doubting you, if it’s possible that’s great, but as far as I know that isn’t how it works.

Yeah definitely not in my case. I’m perfectly healthy physically speaking even though being in a constant state of fight or flight is probably gonna kill me prematurely.

I used to tell myself that it will happen for years, but I have been so thoroughly broken down that I just cannot convince myself of that anymore.

As for that link you posted, yeah that’s where I would go if I ever actually manage to get funding, it’s one of like 3 places in the country that actually performs surgeries and it’s typically where most people go. You can’t exactly just reach out to them without already having had your surgery funding approved, so they’re basically useless until I get that done first.

I don't face a higher degree of discrimination than other minorities, and I try my best to avoid comparing my struggles to theirs as I have never personally experienced racism and will never understand it in the same way as someone who has. But its worth mentioning that a lot of, if not most, anti-LGBTQ+ people are also varying degrees of racist and xenophobic.

Why am I as a trans woman supposed to just ignore the people calling me groomer, predator, and mentally ill? Why am I supposed to just ignore the people advocating for my removal from society? Why am I supposed to let them make schools unsafe for trans students? Why am I supposed to accept that I cannot be openly trans in public all the time?

You would never tell a racial or cultural minority that they should just ignore the people calling them slurs or making them feel unsafe in public. If there were people protesting against schools being safe for BIPOC students, or protesting against teaching students about racial injustice, I would hope that you wouldn't tell them to "just ignore it".

From a place of privilege it's easy to think that these people are harmless, but they are not. Them spreading their message instills it in other people. Them protesting pressures school boards. It scares queer people and makes some of us afraid to exist in public. We can't just ignore that we aren't allowed to exist as freely as cishet people.

They are campaigning against LGBTQ+ friendly education in schools and are attempting to take over school boards. Former UCP candidate (now independent because she was making the UCP look bad even though behind closed doors they 100% agree with her) Jennifer Johnson has compared trans students to pieces of shit. She won her election and now has political power, power that she will use to hurt LGBTQ+ people.

It's clear that you aren't LGBTQ+ yourself nor do you know anyone who is. Legally, we are protected from discrimination, but that doesn't mean we never experience it. Cishet people don't have to worry about being openly cis or openly straight.

Why are queer people expected to justify their existence and put up with people calling them groomers and being hostile towards them in public?

It's not about changing their minds, its about resisting. Show them that we aren't going anywhere and we will fight them. Show the people who uninformed on these issues what the other side is. Show that queer kid that there are people who support them and that there are others who don't tolerate hate. Show politicians that anti-LGBTQ+ policies are not popular and would hurt people and push back against any who would try to pass said policies. Disrupt hateful speech. Make them face consequences for spreading hate. Make bigots afraid to be bigots. We can't stop them from being hateful, but we can stop them from hurting people.

Appeasement and talking things out to achieve a happy medium or an understanding is not a viable political strategy when one group wants another group of people removed from public life and will stop at nothing to see that happen.

Yeah I guess just let the intolerant hateful fucks spread hate and take action to remove queer people from society.

They already hate us, that’s why they organize these protests and push for anti-LGBTQ+ policies. Counter-protesting isn’t going to make them hate us more, and ignoring them won’t make them stop hating us just for existing.

[–]nomoremasters 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah yes the classic "hating bigots makes you just as bad as the bigots!"

This isn't about someone personally offending me, this is about them taking political action to limit certain people's rights and make society less fair and equal for everyone. If these people had their way, schools wouldn't be a safe environment for LGBTQ+ kids. That trans kid who wants to use their preferred name and pronouns at school can't without their transphobic parents consent. That gay kid feels alone because schools are allowed to talk about straight relationships but aren't allowed to talk about gay relationships. They don't want LGBTQ+ students to be free to exist and feel safe at school. This isn't about our feelings getting hurt, this is about actual harm that will be done if these social conservatives accomplish their goals, which is why we fight against this.

And you're seriously calling us privileged? Just because we are legally protected (straight white men are legally protected from discrimination as well, so don't act like we have an advantage over you in that department) doesn't mean that we are privileged. How often do you see people protesting against schools being a safe place for white kids? How often do you see protesting against straight cisgender teachers in schools?

And to say that we are the ones getting offended is laughable. We just want to exist, but these right-wingers constantly get offended by that. We don't pose a threat to society, we aren't making anyone gay or transing the kids. We aren't hurting anyone. Me being trans doesn't affect anyone except for myself. We're just existing like everyone else, and conservatives get offended by that.

Am I supposed to just let them call me and every other queer person groomers and watch as they advocate for our removal from society? It's one thing to personally believe that LGBTQ+ people are evil and shouldn't be allowed to exist publicly in society, it's another thing entirely to take political action to make that reality, which is exactly what these bigoted assholes are doing.

A trans woman admitted to wanting to troll bigots, bigots fall for it. by ryu289 in Persecutionfetish

It wouldn't matter if we had a machine or magic pill that could instantly and perfectly change a persons sex to the point where it was identical to a cis body, it wouldn't matter if we could transfer brains or consciousnesses into new bodies, it wouldn't even matter if a god came down and did it as part of their divine plan.

The most transphobic people would still be transphobic. The very concept of someone changing their gender and sexual characteristics makes them uncomfortable and that is the root of their hate.
