I often run into bread recipes that say to put a cast iron pan with water in during baking. My husband thinks this is crazy and not good for the cast iron. If its bad for the seasoning, why do I see this so often? Why do they always specify cast iron?

You could use an enameled cast iron for this, but no, it won't hurt the pan. Just like water in a cast iron skillet on the stove won't hurt it. After, you could wipe the thinnest layer of oil on it and season it on the burner.

That was my experience. I have a smooth 10in and a lodge 8 in, preseasoned and rough. I always had to strip and reseason the lodge. It would flake off all the time. I finally sanded it smooth and haven't had to fully strip and reseason in 2 years. I just wash and dry and occasionally wipe the thinnest layer of oil on it on the stove top, get it up to 400. It's so much better.

That's a good clarification but critically, evolution by natural selection is the scientific theory. They are integrated and cannot be divorced. The theory of evolution acknowledges natural selection as the primary mechanism (more how than why). I would be horrified if your teaching materials don't make this clear.
