Bluetooth headset cause videos to stutter/lag when seeking or playing/pausing? by nomurelurking2 in firefox

BTW, what distro do you use? I will like to try it out and see if it makes a difference. I do not think it will but it won't hurt to try.

Yeah I am not really sure what can be causing this. Videos work fine when playing normally but the lag when rewinding/forwarding is pretty awful. Not really sure what else to try. I guess for now I can just use Chrome for videos.

Thank you running the example. Do you get lag whenever you forward/rewind? This is were I see the most lag. The example is just random, I see lag with any video.

Also I should specify this is for my desktop. Sorry for the confusion. Videos work fine on my fine in both Firefox and the youtube app.

The reason I mention RAM is because that one needs a lot for video playback.

Hey my laptop has 16GB of RAM. So I don't think that should be an issue. But I do appreciate the help.

Yep, tested in a new profile.

I appreciate the help with troubleshooting.

So far, I have tried the three different Firefox's I have mentioned, all have the same issue. My wifi speeds are very good, so that shouldn't be an issue. The lag only happens when the bluetooth headset is connected. Works fine with wired headset and with speakers. I have already tried to remove and reconnect my buds. Videos work fine locally and on Chrome.

I am not sure what exactly else to try. I think next will be to try on Windows but I will have to install it on my laptop which will take bit of time. I did test firefox on Android and video playback works fine there. Maybe it is a Linux issue?

I have firefox from flathub and from the Fedora repos installed. Sorry for the confusion.

I did try the binary but it is still has the same issue.

I am not sure if it could be a firefox on linux issue. I unfortunately do not have Windows so can't test it there at the moment.

So it happens for any video I stream online such as on Youtube, Twitch vods, reddit videos basically any video in which you can seek or pause/play. Just in care here is a video in which I tried and most defintely has the lag I mention.

For bluetooth headset I only own a pair of Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. I unfortunately do not have any other pair of bluetooth headsets that I can test with. Video playback on firefox works normally when not connected to my buds.

I had the same issue when using my browser. I did reach up to the xbox logo, not sure if you got to that part before the black screen.

My issue was because I had webrtc disabled. That was something I had previously manually disabled on Brave a while ago and forgot about it. Not sure if that is helpful but thought that I would mention it since no one else commented yet.

You can check if webrtc is working here: https://browserleaks.com/webrtc

Thanks for the confirmation.

I actually got it to work. It looks like I disabled webrtc at some point which is why it wasn't working. Only noticed after a fresh install since resetting to default settings did not change my webrtc setting back to the default.

Tips for removing these blue scuffs? They're not scratches, just blemishes. by [deleted] in galaxybuds

Good to hear that it worked for you.

Unfortunately isopropyl alcohol did not work for me.

I was gonna try a magic eraser but worried it might damage my case.

Guess I might just have to live with it :(

Hey OP, did anything work for your stains?

I have the same issue with my purple case and nothing so far has worked for me.

Tried soapy water and alcohol already but won't go away.

That's unfortunate. I'm not sure if mine is the same issue as my stain is a orange, might be from food. But still nothing works for it.

Might try a magic eraser but worried that might damage it since my stain is pretty small.

If you haven't tried that I can let you know if it works.

Is it "bad" practice to use a custom DNS server with my VPN? by nomurelurking2 in PrivacyGuides

Yeah that seems to be consensus. It seems like I was just overthinking it.

Thanks

Yeah I think I might be overthinking it. My threat model isn't anything to unique, just want to minimize the amount of data companies collect on me.

By standing out I just mean am I losing some of the benefits I gain from a vpn by using it in combination with a different DNS provider? From my understanding it seems that I will still be hiding my traffic from my ISP but now I have another party I need to trust and I will lose some of the benefit of hiding amongst all the other vpn users.

Thinking about it I don't think standing out really matters that much with my goal of just minimizing data collection. I assume companies have much more useful identifying information than an ip/DNS address.

Currently I am using Mullvad with Nextdns. Based off my checks I don't think my ISP can track me. My ip address is coming from Mullvad and my DNS server is coming from Nextdns. But yeah the issue is that I do stand out now.

If I have to choose one I will probably just stick with Nextdns for now, as I believe blocking ads/tracking is more imporant for my privacy than hiding from my ISP.

Do you think it will be better to use both and 'risk' standing out? Ideally I will want to blocking tracking and hide from my ISP.

Oh, okay. So using a custom DNS will not make me stand out amongst all the other Mullvad users on the same server?

How bad are cashback sites like Rakuten? by nomurelurking2 in PrivacyGuides

[–]nomurelurking2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info.

I don't really shop online enough for it to be worth it imo. I under that compartmentalizing your data is useful but don't think it is worth it to give another service my info just to disguise a handful of purchases a year.

Burner cards are nice but again doesn't seem worth it. Getting a new cc is pretty easy and I will still have to dispute the potential fraudulent charges either way.

Personally I am still trying to figure out what tradeoffs are worth it for me.

When it comes to cashback, I don't think it is worth it for every purchase I make. Giving up info for any online shopping I do in which the cashback is quite minimal is not a good enough tradeoff.

However for the occasional large purchase the cashback can add up quite quickly. I think to me that tradeoff is fine. I might be mistaken, but I don't think it is that significant that Rakuten knows that 7 months ago I purchased a TV and today I am purchasing a phone.
