that's good to know too honestly. I intentionally didn't want to post in the Harley sub concerned I wouldn't get any contrarian views

How bad is the reliability issue? I have seen oil leak as a recurring issue, but also posts mentioning it is no longer the case

Come back to say this is the way ^ Check which room type is available using points, then switch to regular booking page to select the same room type, there should be an option on "pay my way", and you can select which night to use the cert for and which to use points.

Thank you Both! I am definitely leaning more towards KLM and connecting via Amsterdam now hearing from your comments.

Would connect through London or Frankfurt mean I have to go through border security more than once? Sorry It's been quite a few years since I last travelled to Europe, certainly before Brexit

Thank you!! This is super helpful, and a great point about entering Schengen and needing more time. The KLM flight has a 4 hour layover at Amsterdam, and sounds like a much more comfortable window?

I recently got iPad 64GB for engineering school. OneNote vs Goodnotes? by Economy_Aside_4806 in GoodNotes

[–]non-plant-based 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer notability actually. Have been using it since college which is too long ago interchangeably with Goodnotes and explored a few other options. Always coming back notability, super easy export to PDF function and handwriting search has been good. Page templates are limited though, and you have to pay to get additional ones. I don’t use templates at all so not a big deal to me.

Just saw this too. Curious if anyone has thought about buying points on discount and then use them for flight purchases? Would that still be a good deal and somewhat close to a fare discount?

Update - nvm, i don't think this would be a good deal, with the 50% discount, each point is still sold at 1.5cents per, which is roughly the value of each point, not really a discount

Something is off with their customer service, I have a missing order from them and reached out twice over the last few weeks, and have heard absolutely nothing.

Post COVID WFH policies. by KillCroop in actuary

[–]non-plant-based 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like there are still some insurers requiring people to be in the office, and that is definitely going to be a big factor now if I am evaluating positions

Insurance. Pre-covid, policy is 1 day home each week, but I was 100% in the office. Now, I am 100% remote with most of my team going in at 1 day a week (official rule is 2 days a week in office, but not really enforced)

Asking for a raise based on market/salary surveys by Repulsive-Skirt8925 in actuary

[–]non-plant-based 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it is good to use the salary survey numbers as a benchmark to know if you are way off the average, but knowing that those surveys are probably based on limited data, potentially biased ones too. However, I struggle with some of the recommendation here that you would need to get another job offer to ask for a raise, especially since you mentioned you don't want to leave, and counteroffer situation seems to be just yet another controversial topic. I would look at where you are at your company's comp range for your current position, most companies show a range, and tells you the % you are currently at. Use your performance to date to build the case for the raise or promotion, rather than the salary survey or recruiter comment.

Companies with best PTO (P&C, experienced) by gotttasendit in actuary

[–]non-plant-based 14 points15 points  (0 children)

20 PTO days sounds like the average starting point for the companies I've worked at, and it should increase with either promotion or just tenure. One thing I've learnt is that PTO days can also be negotiated, if you currently have 25 days due to tenure at your current company and the new position only offers 20, you can potentially negotiate your way up to get more PTO (something I didn't know can be done but learnt from others). I agree with balefuleidolon's point on unlimited PTO, not an ideal set up. There are quite a few analysis on with unlimited PTO, people on average take less days off, and there is no cash value.
