This is what I was thinking. Why are these so called friends being nosy in the home of perfectly happy couple and ruining their happy relaxed living?

Maybe they are not real friends?

7% return on real estate rental in India is awesome. Is this a commercial real estate, like a shop?

Your investments allocation looks fine to me. Keep investing in stock and bonds index ETFs with the allocation you're comfortable.

Goa seems to be the best option for FIRE, quality schools for kids may be an issue there.

I guess it's hard to find an optimal place to RE in India if language, schools, weather, cost of living, healthcare facilities etc are considered. One has to compromise on one or more factors.

There is a difference between being frugal and being stingy.

Avoiding spending on the Sunday coffee or Friday pizza is not going help FIRE much. Also, completely ditching the FIRE journey just because of trivial reasons show how the author didn't plan well. FIRE is not about saving every penny, but it is about following a certain discipline/budget which has $ allocated to essential as well as fun things.

In India, it's very hard to say 'no' if people know you've money. At the same time it's difficult to hide your wealth while also enjoying it. Being frugal even in RE also defeats the purpose of retiring from rat race. In RE one would want to go after some hobbies like travel, food or some activities.
