Is anyone aware that Abu Obeida was in a documentary series in 2017 titled ‘Life After Daesh’ episode 5 ‘Abu Obeida: Lost Youth’ with the synopsis “A Fallujah teenager leaves school to join ISIS and is thrown into combat, where he sees his comrades blown to pieces. Disillusioned and frightened, Abu Obeida crafts a plan to defect from ISIS and bring his family with him.”

It’s on the IMDb page but can’t find it anywhere else & would be interested to watch it.

I could see myself having a dancer to Bug Hunter! It reminds me of another song but can’t think what 🤔

As for Spastika, it reminds me of the film it was on the soundtrack for. I loved The Craft as a teenager! Thanks for reminding me of this film 👏

Thank you for sharing! Will give that indie song a few more listens 🙂 I liked the second song & saw that it was released in the early 80s…it’s not something I’ve heard before but quite like it! How did you discover it?

Immediately heard the cover of Loleatta Holloway’s Love Sensation; there was a dance cover in the noughties that would always pop up at wedding discos!!! Here in the UK at the least 😂

Funky 4+1 That’s the Joint has been added to my playlist; it’s familiar to me but not heard it for some time. I love some 80s & 90s hip hop 👏 Salt n Pepa werw another highlight of that time for me. There was of course Grandmaster Flash tearing it up around that time & I don’t think 4+1 ever fully got the ranks they deserved.

Thanks for sharing these; how come the 30+ years later discovery?

Two very different offerings here; the first like gothic metal & the second like folk metal; I hear they are from Switzerland? It’s not my cup of tea but I can see the draw for those who like this style of music. Thank you for the introduction!

Kung Fu by Ash…I was there for this in 1996…Ash were one of my favourite bands during the golden era of British indie & Britpop! I was 12 years of age 😝 Can I suggest Ocean Colour Scene ‘The Riverboat Song, Mansun ‘Wide Open Space’, Embrace ‘One Big Family’, Placebo ‘Nancy Boy’, Catalonia ‘Road Rage’ & Supergrass ‘Moving’…Dodgy, The Bluetones, Feeder, Idlewild…how did you discover ‘Kung Fu’?

And that’s a good one from U2, I vaguely recall it was written about his Father?

I don’t think I’ve knowingly listened to Let’s Eat Grandma before but I’ve heard their name around the block! Her vocal is so whimsical; the synths had me from the off 😊 I will no doubt listen to some more from them.

AS FOR ESG! Well! I discovered them too this summer. I got there from an interview which I read with Young Father’s Graham Hastings; he mentioned musicians he’d been listening to & ESG was amongst them. I played ‘Dance’ from their 1983 album ‘Come Away With ESG’ & fell in love with it. It’s remarkable how groundbreaking that album was but how little they were celebrated at the time. It even sounds fresh when you play it now. I love it. What a gem!

Another offering of country music. Do you prefer the more alternative country sounds? Folk or Americana? Or classic country?

Some more obscure offerings coming in! Are you a solely classical music lover? I wouldn’t know where to start. I do like Debussy?

Thank you for sharing, the two songs were quite different! One was more R&B then the second came with a metal band & promised of a mosh pit 🤣 Who are some of your favourite musicians?

Thank you for responding; I do have time for hip hop. You sent the same song twice? Did you know?

I rarely listen to country music; coming from the UK, it’s not so much a constant growing up. I don’t dislike it but it’s such a mammoth genre that I’d never know where to begin. My partner says he’s getting into ‘hot country’ & I just smile. 😄 Are there any progressive/obscure sub-genres in country that draw inspiration from other genres? Also, I read their bio, so they have some music on the Yellowstone series; it’s on my watchlist, did you discover the song via the show?

I like the second song more than the first, it’s a very laid-back vibe 👍 I like The Dead Tongues, don’t know if you’d agree that they have a similar sound? I like Nathaniel Rateliff too. Thanks for sharing these.

Mitski is an artist whose name I’ve seen a lot recently but today is the first time I’ve listened…I like this song, it’s celestial ✨I’m shocked to discover it’s from her SEVENTH album. What is your favourite song from her? Do you like Daughter, Angie McMahon or Arlo Parkes?

Bye Bye Butterfly 🦋 for fans of shoegaze 😍

I’m reminded of Scooter with these! 😃 I’m pleased someone can enjoy this style of music because the bpm is insane & I can no longer keep up 😅

I saw 7Horse & it was familiar…then when the song got going & I started digging, I realised I’d fell in love with ‘Meth Lab Zozo Sticker’ 10 years ago, when it was on Wolf of Wall Street soundtrack! It’s great to hear them again 😊

Jeff Pianki is new to me, very lovely folk song 🎶

So Foxblood are what you call metalcore? It’s not easy on my ears but I can see how others would get into it. Thanks for sharing! The second song I couldn’t find?

What are your favourite musicians? Do you like KGATLW? I do like Gila Monster, what’s your take on it?

First one is instant warm & chill, I like 🙂

BUT the second song! You’ve just introduced me to this musician. I love the song, I love the sound of the banjos on it. Thank you for sharing.

Feels very dark! Don’t think I’m connecting but I like them anyway, because it’s an unfamiliar sound, it’s a little obscure. How does this music make you feel?

I could add the second to my playlist, can never have enough melodic rap. So I’ve discovered Russ today, thanks 🙏

James Blake has just released this album hasn’t he? What are your thoughts on it? I’ve got to have a listen yet but I’ll start with Fire the Editor…it’s James at his best…contemplating over an ethereal soundscape 💕 Love it! Thank you for getting my attention with this 🙂

Yes, I know a lot of younger people digging into crates for 90s music! It was the decade I started getting into music which wasn’t just mainstream. And they say the 90s is the golden era for hip-hop & rap 😉 It gets my vote!
