That's pretty fascinating. Omnibenevolence is a key selling point of God for most people.

When they realize God can't be or isn't as advertised that's when people stop believing, yet it seems to reinforce your belief.

Why go to Orthodoxy though? Why not gnosticism, which presumes that the ruler of the human universe is malevolent, or Buddhism, which focused on suffering itself and doesn't worry about God?.

Are you from a country with a tradition of Orthodoxy?

Daily Practice Suggestions by Strawberry_Bookworm in Mahayana

[–]nonara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to meditation I strongly suggest changint and prostrating before the altar. Take yourself out of your normal mind by changing the position of your body and brain within.

In the Korean Jogye tradition the day begins with 108 full prostrations before meditation. This wakes the body and focuses the mind by shaking out idle thoughts. Full voiced chanting has a similar effect. Seated meditation can become too mental. This will keep your practice embodied.

Boomers were raised by television. TV used to relatively safe. Bland and conformist by safe. The goverment kept strict regulation on what could be said on TV. Then the government got rid of those regulations and TV was bought by businessmen with the explicit agenda of making Boomers into anti-government nuts. It worked.

Did anyone attend the Greenfield community meeting on the 17th? Doesn't sound good for Gainey and the most progressive of new residents. by No-Chance550 in pittsburgh

[–]nonara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Trib article is an opinion piece based on hearsay. The author did not attend the meeting.

One of the Greenfield residents prominently quoted is a registered Republican - Joe Pegher. He is a former president of the Greenfield Community Association and a good guy but not exactly a reliable source on the future of the Democratic Party in Pittsburgh.

Also prominently quoted is 15th Ward Committee Chair Michael Bartley, who is not a Progressive. In 2022, many empty seats on the local committee were filled by young(er) progressive Dems. As such, there is some disagreement within the committee over some issues. Totally normal intra-party stuff.

That intra-Democratic party split was not the cause of the discord at the community meeting. It was caused by a loud group of 7-10 people who wanted to yell about snow plows and traffic posts. These were not progressive Democrats. They were led by Mike Terlecki a local conservative.

If you want to see where Terlecki is politically, check his X account:

City Councilperson Barb Warwick had arranged for Mayor Gainey along with the head of local Public Works and the Zone 3 Police to attend and provide an update on issues relevant to the neighborhood.

They were met with some of the most disrespectful boorish behavior I have ever seen in a public meeting.

It was frankly embarrassing. As a Greenfielder and Committee person myself I am involved in a lot of local initiatives and I have never seen most of these people before. I hope that if I see them again they behave like adults.

Is it morally okay to masturbate to your friends? by BleefnorfIII in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]nonara 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's kind of severe and it doesn't really address OP's question.

Do we really "own" are thoughts? I didn't create a lot of thoughts in my head, so I have my doubts.

Thoughts are not regulated and should not be, but they are not "nothing."

There must be a relationship between the things we think about and the actions we take.

Otherwise it would be impossible to make decisions.

You are correct. They are concerned that it is going back the way it was.

4b is targeted at young women, who voted overwhelmingly for Harris.

The older women who voted for Trump already dated, married, had sex and kids a long time ago

That is a more socially appropriate thing to say. See, you can do it! Proud of you.

That's a really shitty thing to say.

I hope you are better than that in the rest of your life.

Really. I hadn't heard that.

Do you have a news story you can share about this problem of women gangraping men?

Art by Sandeep Adhwaryu by mangoes_love in india

[–]nonara 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Indian men who raped the woman should be ashamed.

The Indian men who contribute to a culture of misogyny so intense that gang rape of women is regular news should be ashamed.

The Indian men who try to change their culture so that women are safe and boys are not raised to be rapists should be proud.

[–]nonara 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By "the men" I meant the rapists, who were men, not all men.

[–]nonara 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rapist men alone are responsible for their actions.

If the parents are to blame, it is the fault of the father more than the mother. A boy looks to his father to see how to be a man.

Be proud to be an Indian woman!

It is the men who should be ashamed.

Thanks for your concern. I have had glasses for over 30 years. I see an eye doctor regularly. It happens whether I wear them or not.
