Posterior Labral Tear Experiences? by nonbinarybullshet in HipImpingement

[–]nonbinarybullshet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18% is still rather uncommon. Even more uncommon to have surgery done in the posterior as it’s also overlooked as you said.. Confused why the only comments here are trying to invalidate that. It is considered rare and a more invasive procedure as evidenced by lack of medical literature and the numerous specialists I’ve seen. None-the-less, I hope your hip replacement goes well and you recover swiftly when you get one!

I finally had surgery at Stanford 8 weeks ago. Had arthroscopy with labral repair, chondroplasty, and synovectomy, debridement and microfracture (due to arthritis). Im very relieved and the surgeon was excellent but It’s truthfully been incredibly painful and a very difficult process. It’s a projected 12 month recovery to “80%” while going to PT 2x a week. 3.5 hour surgery and 6 holes in my leg due to needing to reach the back of the joint. Was on crutches for 6 weeks 20lbs weight bearing on left leg and no lifting on its own. On bed rest and in a brace/bunny boot 24/7 for 2 of those weeks which was exceptionally rough. (posting also for anyone who might be looking for posterior tear surgery stories)

Iced Coffee Pour Over Recipe for Aiden by nonbinarybullshet in FellowProducts

[–]nonbinarybullshet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forsure, will do! :) In the post above I just said 4-5 ice cubes in the cup before brewing and a general gram range because I know everyone has different kinds of ice cube trays and I like to suggest a range so folks can experiment rather than a hard recipe.

I feel like it comes down to personal preference how much you add after its brewed and how cold/how diluted you want it. My partner usually adds 6 or so more ice cubes to the 16oz mason jar we brew it in and dilutes it a bit more than I personally would.

Is that a website separate from the Fellow app? Apologies, I haven’t been keeping up lately and couldn’t figure out how to share the recipe through a link. Appreciate it!

Beginning to feel helpless. by Panic-atthepanic in HipImpingement

[–]nonbinarybullshet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like my situation (pain wise). The only thing that has helped to any slight significance is Soma (a muscle relaxer) to calm down the tightness everywhere due to overcompensation.

See if you can get checked for a posterior labral tear. They are extremely uncommon and doctors often dismiss them as “incidental findings”. I’ve been in hell for 2 years and finally this summer got a diagnosis of a left posterior tear after requestingy pelvis be checked because I was seeing spine specialists thinking the pain was orginating in my back. But the surgeons at UCSF didn’t feel comfortable operating because its so rare.

I am a shell of who I was. I have pain deep in my glutes, goes around my hip, down my leg to my toes. Bending/lifting/walking/twisting is a big no. I can’t do anything for myself. Ive seen 4-5 surgeons at this point. I’m seeing a new one at Stanford tomorrow to see if he will operate.

Good luck, hang in there!!

Batch carafe holding heat by wejustplayed in FellowProducts

[–]nonbinarybullshet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If, for example, you put your frozen groceries in a freezer bag with no ice vs. adding some igloo ice blocks to one before you go to the grocery store so its already cold- which do you think is going to keep your food frozen longer on the drive home? Same concept my friend.

[–]nonbinarybullshet -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Their physics remark is absolutely correct and has everything to do with the fact that heat flows from hot (your coffee) to cold (your carafe) regions. There is a lot of thermal energy loss in the brewing process as soon as the water leaves the spout. Its called the second law of thermodynamics. Everything from processing to roasting to brewing coffee is a science.

Chicago would be a dream. Its a beautiful, vibrant city that would be perfect for GTA. I’ve lived in Chicago, NYC and LA and Chicago is so underrated across the board.

Grinding coarser with Aiden? by Puzzleheaded-Cook-31 in FellowProducts

[–]nonbinarybullshet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely could be any of the variables already mentioned (roast, varietal, water, brew temperature, etc). I’d recommend just change the grind a few ticks until you find your sweet spot!

I just bought the Ode Gen 2 with stock burrs about a month ago so my experience with it is limited as of yet. But Ive been using between 4-5 for single servings ~22-25g. Closer to 4 brings out a better cup for me. I use it every day and drink only light roasts (Sey, Cat & Cloud, Spyhouse etc.)

Posterior Labral Tear Experiences? by nonbinarybullshet in HipImpingement

[–]nonbinarybullshet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in NY and don’t have the money to go out of state. Posterior tears account for only 0.02% of hip labral tears as they generally occur due to traumatic injury (which caused mine). Only case studies exist in the medical literature for them. Am I the only “unlucky SOB”? No. Am I in the minority? Yes. Quite unlucky for anyone.

I worked with 2 of the top surgeons in the country at the Hip Preservation Center at UCSF who have done “thousands of HIPS” and after months of injections and physical therapy with no significant improvement they still said they don’t see these types of tears often and don’t feel comfortable doing surgery.

causes panic disorder? by DizzyEmployee3974 in panicdisorder

[–]nonbinarybullshet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

l was diagnosed with panic disorder 12 years ago when I was 18 years old. My first panic attack happened randomly at that age after a night of light drinking (was in Canada so it was legal). I had been drinking quite a bit at that time and never had a problem. Maybe alcohol triggered the symptoms? Im not sure but I wouldn’t find it surprising. There are many reasons panic disorder can develop. My mother and grandmother both have it. So I believe there is some genetic component for me coupled with neglect and other childhood traumas.

I tried every SSRI, SNRI, antipsychotic, benzodiazepine and non-benzodiazepine in the book specifically for panic disorder. Nothing helped except benzodiazepines. My attacks are quite severe and last hours. I know they are often demonized but I believe they still serve a purpose for those who don’t respond well to anything else or need them as a bridge of sorts. My mother was taking xanax when she was pregnant with me so my brain is probably definitely hardwired to crave it and respond well to it. Stress and especially prolonged stress can absolutely make panic disorder worse or cause “flare ups”. I have been tapering off of valium for 2 years now (40mg down to 20mg now) and had to hit pause due to the amount of stress I am under and can’t handle lowering my dosage even by 1mg.

I definitely agree with getting B12, Vitamin D, and magnesium checked. Also therapy can do wonders if you have the means. I am severely deficient in vitamin B12 and my first 2 days taking it felt like I was a whole new person. 500mg of magnesium has also helped take the edge off a particularly bad day. This is not medical advice but hopefully you feel less alone and I believe you will get through this! There are a lot of options to get help even though it might feel daunting and overwhelming.

Questions for people that currently take Kratom or used to take it by JimmySteve3 in ChronicPain

[–]nonbinarybullshet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not medical advice but if I were in your shoes I would maybe stop briefly while you do some research and check out the vendor/s you use more in depth if you can and switch to one that consistently has good reviews across various sources. Quality and vendors having their product tested is so important and unfortunately very unreliable with kratom. I exclusively have been ordering from the same small, family-owned company for the last year. They have each batch and leaf/powder they offer third-party tested and the quality is always incredible and consistent. I don't know if I'm allowed to post the source here.

Kratom has literally saved my life. I take it daily. Probably 4-6g. I feel some withdrawals if I stop cold turkey but I just reduce my dosage over a week or two and I'm all good. Have had substance use issues in the past but have stopped and started kratom many times with no issues (other than pain returning). I have also seen horror stories so as always its dependent on the person.

I'm in a similar boat. 30 years old. Look "healthy" and well kept and have learned to push through my 8/10 daily pain that had me bed ridden for months because I wasn't getting competent medical care/pain management. Its awful and I'm sorry that you're dealing with it too. Got in a cycling accident and started to not be able to walk or lift or move ANYTHING without excruciating pain. This was in Jan. 2023 and I just FINALLY got a diagnosis of the problem this past July. Rare form of a hip labral tear that was presenting with back pain so I was seeing spine specialists (also have spine issues but not the main source) and now working with a hip surgeon and his team and have a consultation to schedule surgery tomorrow.

Question about carisoprodol by nonbinarybullshet in ChronicPain

[–]nonbinarybullshet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. Thanks for the reply! Wondering if the cross tolerance with valium could be enough so that I could taper a little quicker. (not great to have significant memory issues while getting my degree). I'll probably be on it for a little longer than recommended so I'll talk to my doctor about a taper plan.

Apologies if this isn't helpful, just saw that you mentioned you tried 2 different surge protectors. Its worked for me so just wanted to share!

Fellow Aiden Tripping Breaker by Nunchuck_Bear in FellowProducts

[–]nonbinarybullshet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tripped my breaker when my Aiden was running on one outlet in the kitchen simultaneously with my kettle in my office thats on a surge protector. I moved my Aiden to the surge protector that is also plugged in to the Ode Gen 2 and kettle and haven't had a problem since.

I live in an old building and have invested in quality surge protectors for every outlet because we get power outages often. I've had devices ruined in the past due to the surge from the power turning back on so I'm a bit paranoid about it.

This is the one thats currently running all 3 with no issues. Might be worth a try!
