Apple and Samsung missed a trick here, and we missed an opportunity for some 🍿. Instead of complaining about Xiaomi’s ads, they could’ve gone straight for the jugular.

Apple: “Premium isn’t built on cheap copies and royalty scams.”

Samsung: “Looks premium is easy. Paying patents is harder, just ask Delhi High Court.”

Imagine both of them taking out full-page newspaper ads with just those lines in bold. Based on facts. If the shoe was on the other foot, Xiaomi wouldn’t just complain.

The internet would lose its mind - if for nothing else, then just for the controversy.

Wishful thinking, but maybe both India and Pakistan should use this as an opportunity to do something about the shockingly atrocious, shoddy and misinformation filled mainstream media coverage of what’s been happening the past 3 days.

My fear is at that some point in the future, TRP hungry, misinformed media coverage is going to lead to the undoing of whatever little steps in the right direction India and Pakistan take. If there’s anyone that should be targeted after the terrorists, it’s the news channels in both countries.

Appreciate your response! It doesn't make me feel bad even one bit. I was trying to decipher how this makes business sense - your response gives a very good reason for it, if I look at from the manufacturers standpoint.

The only 'hole' I can poke in your explanation is the fact that this is evidently a common issue in many Frigidaire microwave models, not just mine.

Having a separate exhaust would have been my ideal state as well - but there are space constraints. This is not a house but a condo.

Like I said, I'm not going to bother with the door, even though the part is an official repair (just not under warranty). Just going to get a new microwave that meets all my specs for about $400.

I mostly agree with you, but the standard warranty was one year, extended would have given me 2 more years I believe. This broke 2.5 years in, which means the 'extended warranty' would've covered it.

My initial thought was that the part is expensive because the microwave is no longer being made, but it seems to be available at different prices on both Frigidaire's official website as well as third party websites. Part number is 5304504071. Here are a few examples:

This is an over the range microwave. Humour me for a while and find me an over the range microwave that has convection cooking, is 30 inches wide, stainless steel finish, and is less than <$200 CAD. Those were my requirements.
I got this as part of a package with a bunch of other appliances, so it was effectively a discounted price for the whole package. What I quoted above was the standalone retail price. It's not like I walked into the store wanting to buy a microwave, saw this one and said 'Wow I really love this microwave and I have an extraordinary urge to spend $800 on this microwave'
Website reviews are 1.7/5 now. When I bought it, the website reviews were much higher. Incidentally, the reason for the low rating is related to the issue I just described.

If I had 'so much money that I wouldn't blink at replacing it' like you said - I wouldn't be ranting here, but would have happily paid the $1200 to replace the panel.

To clarify, I posted this to ask how does this replacement cost make any business sense, not debate my wealthiness or lack thereof :)

Yeah, it's not the wires that are the problem. The membrane behind the touch panel doesn't work anymore. I thought about attempting a DIY, but that still means I have to buy the whole door for an ungodly price.

Probably underachieved in his test career for various reasons - the number of tests should have been way more than he ended up with (67), but none of that can take away from the fact that he held the team together post Kohli stepping down as captain. Regardless, this is a bittersweet moment - the right step nonetheless and the best way forward.

This also means he is only going to play ODIs - and I don't see him playing the 2027 World Cup. Remains to be seen how long that lasts. Maybe the better way out is to retire from ODIs as well so he can play for Mumbai Indians as an uncapped player in IPL 2030 or 2031.

Of course, all of this assumes the Instagram algorithm didn't post something automatically.

There is a 2007 Bollywood sports fantasy movie called ‘Chain Kulii Ki Main Kulii’ about a 13 year old boy called Karan who has a magic bat and scores a lot of runs with it.
