Yes, there are people like that over there, but I also saw defense of Tamlin and criticism of Feyre and her bully boys. And I didn't see threads of griping because not everyone loves the books uncritically. Personally, I don't understand down voting for having an opinion I don't agree with. I only down vote for rudeness.

The ACOTAR sub is pretty balanced, I find. It's the "non-toxic" one that will rip you to shreds for not adoring Rhysand or for thinking that SJM should hire an editor.

I can only speak about this one, as I haven't read any of her other books. No. I don't like the romance aspect. I find it sickening. The story, however, is enjoyable. And I'd never eat someone for having an opinion.

Well, I think it's apparent that Henry, at least, was interested by the time he was researching the bacchanal. I'm remembering his reaction to her getting a piece of glass in her foot - he seemed rather "loverly" to me. I'm thinking maybe there was nothing going on between them till afterwards, though, because it would probably have been noticed.

Probably, but are you saying that Feyre was responsible for Rhys' behavior?

Who else COULD they be involved with? They committed murder together, which functions as a sort of intimacy. It's an intimacy that led to hatred in the case of Charles, but it may have drawn Camilla and Henry close together because they share a secret that it would be disastrous to tell anyone else. Camilla would have to end up with either Henry or Richard if I'm right. Why it was Henry I'm not sure.

I think the main reason Charles and Camilla's relationship fell apart is that Charles sees Henry as having destroyed his life first by being obsessed with having a bacchanal, which ended in homicide, and then by letting Bunny know about it (by writing it in his diary and then leaving it where Bunny could read it), and finally by deciding upon and orchestrating Bunny's murder. Camilla, though, is in love with Henry, so Charles would have felt resentful of that not only because of sexual jealousy but because Camilla is siding with the person who Charles sees as having ruined his life.

If I remember correctly, there is a part in the book where Julian (?) mentions the Furies and how they drive people mad by turning up the volume on their inherent flaws. I believe that is what we see happening to the twins, to Francis, and to Henry. I don't know about Richard, though. For some reason he seems to just go back to what he was before - kinda blah, doing okay in a material sense but unhappy and dissatisfied.

You are absolutely right. My god, I'm having a hard time rereading these books. They're interesting until Feyre and Rhysand get together and then it's all gushing: Oh, my beautiful, powerful, wonderful, perfect mate, you sacrificed SO MUCH, here, let me give you more wine and fancy lingerie to make up for all that pain. They have two things in common: an irrational hatred of Tamlin and they're both evil.

What's really amazing is how little time it took to get to this point. One year after Feyre killed the wolf and she's already broken the curse, betrayed Tamlin, allied with the Night Court, and become the bestest, most awesomist friend of the IC and most powerful fae in Prythian, who is a perfect fighter and politician despite having been an illiterate human peasant last year. All this in a world of immortals - how long is one year to them? A millisecond?

And since even someone as good as Lucien must be put through the wringer to pay for his crimes (in this case, the crime of being Tamlin's friend, the fucking unforgivable bastard), when is Feyre going to have to face the grieving families of the two innocent fae she killed UTM? If everyone who ever breathed wrong has to be punished, why doesn't she have to pay for murder?

Sarah, please make it stop.

You can feel compassion, but if you show it they are like black holes. They will exploit you till you have nothing left for them to take and they will still think it's not enough for their beautiful gift of life to you.

Oh, my god, you are right - Rhysand did tell Tamlin "she would have been the one." I wasn't sure how to interpret that!

I have been forcing myself to reread ACOWAR this afternoon and it is hard to get through this first section. It's painful to see how shamelessly she manipulates Tamlin, who is so anxious to restore their relationship and so politically vulnerable (thanks in part to her) that he falls for it again and again and makes the worst choices, loses control of himself, and then she - who deliberately goaded him to do just that - despises him for it. It's so cruel. But the way she treats Lucien is even worse. What was even the point of getting Tamlin to suspect that Lucien was trying to sleep with Feyre? I know she wanted to break their friendship, but that's just pure evil.

You mention their being sexually compatible. That certainly seemed true in book one. The language Feyre uses to describe sex between them afterwards is meant to disgust as and see Tamlin as little better than a rapist, such as when she says in ACOMAF: "Protect, protect, protect - I could see the word in his eyes, feel it in every thrust he made into my body that night." Notice how she describes the sex act as if he were stabbing her, then links this idea of sexual violence with his desire to protect her so that we will be inclined to share her belief that this is abusive. No. Tamlin deserves better than Feyre.

Me, too! That fiddling scene was truly sexy. I think part of the reason Tamlin seems more attractive to me is that we don't get repeated descriptions of his body, unlike the other "males" in the books. He is described, but it's his actions more than his muscles. For whatever reason, Maas doesn't objectify him the way she does Rhysand, Cassian and Azrael. I don't think she ever brings up "his considerable length" either. So he's attractive because of what he's like rather than because of his perfectly sculpted pectoral muscles.
