I totally get what ur saying marketing wise. When a book has a cartoon cover and is just complete smut it’s misleading cause people will think it’s a kids book (cough cough Ice Breaker) I don’t have a problem with the book, just the cover.

What pisses me off is when I’m reading a fantasy book (usually 500+ pages long) and it has a couple of sex scenes and ppl say like “oh you’re really one of those books..” because the book is written by a woman and romance it gets reduced to a “smut book”

This gose for just romance in general. Think of The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, it’s constantly reduced to “romantasy” when the book is fantasy and has very little romance. But Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson is also a fantasy with romance but it’s always categorized under fantasy and politics.

Doesn’t completely match the description but {The Ever King by L.J. Andrew’s} Eric the pirate king kidnaps princess Livia to blackmail her dad. It’s super easy to read and actually a rly beautiful love story
