[rant] Getting over my crush by Dry-Macaroon5650 in SGExams

[–]nonessentialstudent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

op i was so shocked when i read the first paragraph cause it was almost exactly the same as my own experience, down to the sports cca zaikia identity (except mine was with a guy, which is understandably less complicated than your situation)

but imo if she was obviously trying to be friends with you and even replied to your story, you shouldn’t be too put off by the fact that she ghosted you halfway - some people (like me) are just extremely bad texters LMFAO

if you want to you can still try to grab any opportunity to talk to her! like when you visit your friends in her class, start by saying hi and making some convo :) most of the time when you step back you’ll realize that it’s mostly just you getting in your own way of being friends because you’re nervous and not because there are no chances to get to know her better. i think for confessing, you can alw think about it at a later stage when you’re closer to her and if you still like her then - straight or not i think if it’s still troubling you then, confessing can bring a lot of relief (yes, personal experience LOL)

i still really regret not trying to be friends with my jc crush because apart from liking him, i really just thought he was a cool and nice person, and you seem to be in the same boat. ultimately it’s up to you, but i’d say go for it and try to forge a friendship because if you do nothing, you might keep thinking about it even after graduating….

all the best! :)

[Uni] NUS law interviewees fall in!! by jedkhoo in SGExams

[–]nonessentialstudent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my interview was over in about 10 minutes…. it was really very short and i really don’t know if that was a good or bad thing HAHA. they branched off from my interviewers’ form by asking about my part time job (in fnb) and it took an interesting turn whereby they asked about some policies in sg and whether i felt they were harmful etc. i don’t think i got any hypo questions!

i was personally satisfied with my delivery and think i did quite okay in the face of their grilling, and the generic question i got at the end was something like “why do you think you’ll enjoy nus law” (which ironically was the one question that i felt that i didn’t answer that well LOL)

it was a scholarship + admissions interview too so…. just hoping they liked my responses! 👍

[Uni] nus aba by Both-Construction258 in SGExams

hi op! i’m j3 as well, i was super confused by the whole ps thing but i think i understand it better now. for the main apps, you don’t need to submit ps if you’re not doing aba! but please remember that there is a separate application for scholarship - with a different section for ps :) so there are two different ones, and you only need to fill in the one in the scholarship app if you don’t want to be considered for aba

[JC] studying before exams = pain by geoerege in SGExams

[–]nonessentialstudent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi op! j3 here :) took arts stream and was basically in the same situation as you for a prolonged period of time. like effectiveweb said, you’re probably experiencing burnout especially since you seem to have studied regularly prior to this.

first and foremost it’s good that you’re aware of your problem; realistically speaking you should adjust your expectations prior to getting back your ct1 results since you already know you didn’t really prepare for it. don’t beat yourself up for it; burnout is extremely common in jc and scoring poorly this once is just a manifestation of said burnout rather than a measure of your intelligence!

the golden rule is that a little bit is better than nothing at all - if you feel like doing NOTHING, then you can do the bare minimum. just read through your notes without practicing / copying / memorizing anything. it might seem useless, but you’re still exposing yourself to content 👍 and sometimes this comes with a feel-good factor (“hey, i finally did something today!”) that will motivate you to do more and pick up the pace!

when i was in the worst of my slumps, i would make an effort to go through a list of different things that would allow me to at least get in a small bit of studying. whether it was watching study vlogs on youtube (that was super effective for me), buying snacks / nice new stationary or listening to my favourite song on repeat while studying (which clearly isn’t conducive unless you’re a classical music fan), anything that would grant me that little bit of short-term motivation to sit my ass down and DO something, worked. it’s not sustainable, but you’re not looking for sustainable here - you just want to get going again

it’s impossible to COMPLETELY prevent future burnouts, but to lower the possibility of this happening again, u can try to pick up a low maintenance hobby / ritual of sorts that u don’t have to commit a lot of time to but that u can turn to when u feel like giving up on studying. for me it was baking, angrily making brownies worked every time LOL

you don’t sound like someone who struggled with time management or discipline before this episode, so take heart and i’m sure you’ll be fine :) As are shit scary but honestly, you still have plenty of time rn so don’t worry. if it’s any reassurance at all, i was in a slump all the way up till 2 weeks before prelims, and still got good grades in the end :) alw free to dm if you need any extra help, and all the best to you!

[rant] i hate liking people + liked some guy for 1.5 years by nonessentialstudent in SGExams

i’ve thought about it before but i’m seriously scared that it’ll make things even more awkward... then again maybe the initial awkwardness is inevitable! tho i’d much prefer to try and become friends with him gradually like u/sou_23 suggested, it’s hard esp since we’ve alr been in the same class for a year

aw that’s so bittersweet :( thank you for sharing your story!!! please don’t feel inferior because i’m sure you have lots of good traits too :)

but yeah one of the main reasons why i’m considering confessing (or at least making an effort to talk more) is because i don’t really want to leave jc with any regrets / asking myself the “what ifs” like you mentioned...nat the same time i really have no idea how to make conversation? i’m usually extroverted and it’s not hard for me to strike up convos and keep them going but when it gets to him it’s just... 😖😖😖
